Job Description Summary:
The Director is responsible for the overall implementation of the strategic roadmap for the System Engineering areas, along with tactical day to day support, system maintenance, and fulfilling requests. The Director is also responsible for providing guidance and direction to their team and ensuring the utilization of best practices.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Establishes processes, methodologies and service-level agreements for streamlining the operations of the System Engineering team.
  • Supervises, trains, coaches, directs, coordinates, and disciplines personnel while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures as well as related employment laws.
  • Recommends hire and termination for positions supervised.
  • Assists in developing the Strategic Roadmap for Computer Systems.
  • Executes the roadmap and strategic vision for system development as agreed upon by the Deputy CIO and the CIO.
  • Sets high-level priorities and direction for teams supervised.
  • Creates synergy among supervised teams both within IT and with external teams and partners.
  • Communicates and presents to College leadership the capabilities, vision, direction, and strategy of System Engineering.
  • Aligns with Enterprise Architecture to ensure System Engineering strategy and vision is consistent with the overall strategy and vision for IT.
  • Determines annual requirements for environment enhancements and team development including: hardware, software, licensing, training, renewals, maintenance, staffing, and other project needs.
  • Provides high level costs/analysis on complex requirements and provides recommendations.
  • Presents leadership with status updates and progress reports for ongoing initiatives.
  • Provides extensive knowledge and expertise in the practices of server build-outs, server & desktop virtualization, data center environment buildout and maintenance, database environment maintenance, system security, directory services & identity management, storage, backup and disaster recovery (DR).
  • Maintains the infrastructure environment such that solutions perform in a highly-available, robust, efficient, and effective manner.
  • Works with Network and Telecom Engineering and Technical Support Services to define common, integrated solutions for Infrastructure.



Knowledge/ Skills

  • Extensive knowledge and competency with modern computing systems tools including Microsoft Server, Linux, SQL, VMWare, file shares, storage solutions (on-prem and cloud), and backup tools and server hardware from various vendors including Veeam, Dell, IBM, HP, etc.
  • High level of knowledge and competency in Infrastructure as a Service and connectivity with public and private cloud solutions.
  • Knowledge of the principles of networks and telecom.
  • Knowledge of the principles of security and access management.
  • Knowledge of ITIL, Project Management, and ITSM.
  • Maintaining an established work schedule.
  • Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills including tact and diplomacy.
  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Creating roadmaps, high level plans, Gantt charts, and strategy documents.
  • Ability to precisely follow and execute strategy and vision.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships



Required Work Experience

  • 7 years related work experience
  • 3 or more years leadership experience leading a similar team



Preferred Work Experience

  • Budgeting experience preferred.
  • Ten years related work experience in System Engineering.
  • Ten years related work experience in Data Centers.
  • Ten years related work experience in Virtualization.
  • Ten years related work experience working in Microsoft Server environments.
  • Ten years related work experience with backup and storage solutions and SQL.
  • Five years of experience with ITIL and ITSM systems and with Linux Server environments.
  • Accustomed to fast-paced environments with simultaneous, high-priority tasks.



Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field



Preferred Education

  • ITIL Foundation Certification or higher



Special Requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license



Physical Requirements

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment.

Salary Range

$122,743 - $153,428
