Applications are currently being accepted for two (2) Instructional Assistant / Learning Resources positions in the Learning Resources, STEM department, located at San Diego Mesa College. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.

Please note that an employee may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor.

1. Provide administrative support to HSI STEM Center.

2. Assist STEM Instructional Support Supervisor with oversight of tutors and staff.

3. Provide orientations and learning center information to students, instructors, and others regarding Computer Information Science (CIS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

4. Assist with CIS and GIS specific tutoring and peer mentoring program.

5. Operate and maintain computers and other equipment used in instructional labs and learning centers.

6. Input student data and maintain the computer and or other tracking program/software which monitors student hours in the learning center.

7. Collaborate with faculty and staff to plan and organize programs at the departmental, college, and district-level to enhance student success.

8. Seek out professional learning and disseminate these skills to others.

9. Organize and prioritize workload in order to complete projects in a timely manner.

10. Train and provide work direction to student aides and hourly workers.

11. Other duties as assigned.

Instructional methods and techniques.

Operation, maintenance, uses, and characteristics of a wide variety of audio visual, computer
hardware and software, and other multimedia equipment used in instructional labs and learning
centers.

Oral and written communications skills.

Principles and practices of work direction and training.

Record-keeping techniques.

Safety regulations involving field of specialty.

Technical aspects of field of specialty.
Skills and Abilities:

Assist students in understanding and applying basic principles for the area to which assigned.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Demonstrate a working knowledge of office equipment for preparation of instructional materials.

Demonstrate competence in the use of computers and relevant software applications.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Explain work assignments to students.

Maintain records and prepare reports.

Make simple arithmetic calculations.

Meet schedules and time lines.

Perform minor maintenance and repair of audio visual and computer equipment.

Plan and organize work.

Prepare computer and user guides.

Provide orientation to instructors, staff, and students in the operation of audio visual and other
media equipment, computers, and associated instructional software and peripherals.

Train and provide work direction to others.

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Work cooperatively with others.

Work independently with little direction.
Training and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: six semester units of courses related to
instructional media, including specialized training in computers and one year of related work
experience or three years of tutoring, instructional, or work experience in a multimedia/computer
environment.

Licenses:

Pay Information:

Range 18 ($3,183.98 $5,082.34) per month based on the current AFT Classified Unit Office Technical Salary Schedule

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Classified Staff Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is FLSA Non-Exempt and may accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
