Essential Functions:

The successful candidate will join a college dedicated to the students it serves.

Under the direction of the Director of Dual Enrollment, the Counselor/Coordinator of Reedley Middle College High School (RMCHS) shall perform and be responsible for the following duties:

• Providing the total range of community college counseling services, including career and educational planning, orientation, assessment interpretation, transfer, student outreach and personal counseling;
• Assisting students in the development of a student education plan (SEP);
• Instructing counseling classes for college success, career planning, study skills and transfer preparation;
• Planning and conducting multi-media classroom presentations and large presentations;
• Implementing retention strategies;
• Integrating technology into counseling functions;
• Working collaboratively with faculty members, counselors, staff and administration;
• Planning, organizing and coordinating a variety of services, projects, pathway maps related to RMCHS/college and activities related to RMCHS and Kings Canyon Unified School District;
• Providing leadership in program plans directed towards high school graduation, college degrees earned and transfer-readiness;
• Maintaining strong communication and procedural channels throughout the campus and Kings Canyon Unified School District congruent with the goals and objectives of the RMCHS grant;
• Authorizing expenditures and overseeing RMCHS budget with support from the Reedley College Accounting Technician;
• Participating in the accreditation process;
• Coordinating with existing student services areas, including Early College, high school and college counseling, career and transfer centers with the goal of maximizing campus resources toward grant objectives;
• Maintaining all program data for program assessment and submitting reports according to RMCHS regulations;
• Remaining current on all policies and grant term/conditions;
• Working with staff to institutionalize new practices on the Reedley College campus;
• Maintaining strong working relationships, including conducting training sessions, with academic and support services departments on high school and college campuses to promote the goals and objectives of RMCHS;
• Serving as liaison between Reedley College, Kings Canyon Unified School District and the California Community College Chancellor's Office;
• Developing and implementing new processes and systems;
• Assuring compliance with appropriate college guidelines and regulations;
• Serving on and attending divisional, department, college, and district committees, meetings and activities as needed;
• Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
• Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed;
• Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices; and

• Masters in in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling; or
• A valid California Community College Credential; or
• The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency)

Notes:

• A bachelors degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
• Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
• Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds including students with disabilities;
• Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
• Related work and professional experience;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
• Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students;
• Experience in designing and preparing Student Educational Plans (SEPs) for community college students;
• Experience teaching courses in career and personal development;
• Experience in developing and presenting counseling related workshops and orientation sessions;
• Experience providing counseling and follow-up services to students on probation or academic dismissal status;
• Knowledge of California Community Colleges matriculation processes;
• Knowledge of student development theories pertaining to community college students;
• Ability to connect students with on/off campus resources to assist them in their college life management;
• Ability to use a broad range of technology pertaining to data collection and analysis for student success;
• Ability to work closely with faculty in academic divisions and engage in collegial dialogue on issues of student success;
• Knowledge of emerging technologies and best practices in education;
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills;
• Experience working with individuals of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;
• Experience in the development of K-12 partnerships;
• Experience with dual enrollment and K-12;
• Demonstrated bilingual skills, minimally at conversational level;
• Three years recent professional experience in providing programs and services for economically or educationally disadvantaged individuals, and three years recent experience in a leadership position;
• Graduate coursework and teaching experiences at the secondary or post-secondary level;
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of current educational technology and multimedia presentation (computer use in lecture presentations and laboratory exercises, interactive video, etc.);
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for assisting students to be successful;
• Commitment to ongoing professional development; and
• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Conditions of Employment:
178 - 181 duty days per year contingent upon funding

Salary and Benefits:
Starting annual salary is $70,302 - $107,622 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection advisory committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the "recommended candidates". These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

Reedley College is located in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California in the city of Reedley, which has a population of approximately 25,000. Known as "The Worlds Fruit Basket," Reedley is in one of the richest agricultural regions of the world. Reedley College was established in May 1926 as Reedley Junior College.
