Job Posting Title: Faculty, Vocational Nursing Success Coach
Job Description Summary: This position is for a Nurse Tutor, who will develop, organize, implement and evaluate learning strategies for students enrolled in the Vocational Nursing Program. Our Success Coach works in collaboration with Faculty to support student success in and out of the classroom.
Job Description:
The Vocational Nursing Program offers a traditional day program and an evening/weekend program. The programs are offered on the Eastview campus via face to face and distance education delivery formats. The department is committed to fostering student development of knowledge, skills, and competencies required to provide safe patient care in increasingly complex and diverse healthcare settings. The department promotes integration of evidence-based practices and technology, as well as professional standards and competencies in the curriculum. The program fosters faculty scholarly and professional development.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Collaborates with Vocational Nursing faculty to enhance student learning outcomes in classroom, laboratory and clinical settings.
- Provides individual and group instructional sessions based on student/program needs.
- Facilitates, supervises, and evaluates students in a variety of educational settings.
- Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and departmental governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other departmental activities.
- Utilizes innovative teaching strategies to meet the learning needs of a multicultural student population including, but not limited to, interactive video technology, simulation, online format, and other uses of technology in the classroom and lab setting.
- In collaboration with faculty, develops and implements individualized action plans based on student learning needs.
- Serve as a mentor and advisor to students in the Vocational Nursing program.
- Support division and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning, while supporting accreditation requirements.
- Maintains professional competence and participates in professional development activities.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor.
Additional Duties
- Serves as the first point of contact for any student needing support services.
- Serves as an advocate for students and builds rapport and trust to support successful goal completion.
- Assist students with identifying, planning for, and overcoming potential obstacles and setting goals for academic and career success.
- Monitors the progress of students and provides necessary support to prepare students for the NCLEX-PN examination.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal & external partners that can support student needs in order to facilitate student success.
- May assist faculty with workshops, activities, and the creation of learning communities.
Technology
- Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
- Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)
Principal Professional Standards
- Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.
- Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
- Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
- Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
- Attend and participate in collegewide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
- Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
- Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.
Required Education
In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing with current licensure, certification, or registration; or
- Master of Science in Nursing, or
- Active enrollment in a graduate program in Nursing with completion in less than two years.
SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on the courses taught within the discipline.
Required License(s)
- Current Texas RN license.
Required Work Experience
In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements:
- Three (3) years of non-teaching, industry-related work experience.
- Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge with creating, monitoring and maintaining a success plan.
Preferred Experience
- Work experience to include acute medical-surgical area.
- Prior nursing teaching experience.
- Experience in the Accreditation Commission for Nursing Education in the Nursing accreditation process.
- Experience in Maternal and/or Pediatrics concept experience.
- Certified Nurse Educator (CNE)- Preferred.

- Experience using technology as an instructional aide where appropriate to enhance learning.
- Documented experience with active and applied teaching and learning methodologies.
- A strong commitment to teaching in a community college setting, including teaching practices that reflect an understanding of the multicultural classroom and the benefits of cultural awareness and sensitivity in the classroom and the workplace.
- Commitment to a culture of care for all.
- Commitment to the comprehensive mission of Austin Community College and to the principles and practices associated with Servant-Leadership.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students with a wide range of skills and backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with varied populations from the local community as well as students, staff, faculty, and administration.
- Strength in communication media, both verbal and written, as well as listening.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to maintain an established schedule, including evenings and weekends, including possible multiple campus locations that may vary by semester.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of student information.
- Understanding of what it means to teach in a community college environment that serves often underprepared and underserved students.
