Under direct supervision of the Dean of Workforce Development, the Director of Fire Academy will be responsible for the following:
Provide vision, leadership, and administrative oversight for Fire Technology programs;
Lead, organize, and manage departmental educational planning, instructional schedule, and program development in accordance with the mission, goals, objectives, and regional accreditation of the college;
Serve as an advocate for Public Safety programs to internal and external stakeholders;
Serve as a representative to Statewide and local organizations to assure that Fresno City College (FCC) is on the cutting edge Fire Technology and Medical Emergency training education;
Lead a team of faculty and staff to create, provide, and support innovative programs and initiatives, while also maintaining regulatory compliance;
Oversee the various processes necessary to provide high-quality instruction and support to a variety of programs within the department;
Work closely with other instructional divisions, student services, finance and educational resources to achieve institutional goals;
Supervise academic and classified personnel in the Fire Technology programs to ensure educational objectives are met;
Assign and review work, maintain standards, coordinate activities, evaluate performance, recommend the selection of new employees, act on employee problems and recommend disciplinary action as appropriate;
Review the work of subordinates for effectiveness and completeness;
Work with managers, faculty, staff, students, and appropriate college committees and councils to assure that the instructional goals and delivery systems are meeting student-learning needs and are in consonance with district and college mission, goals and objectives;
Ensure an excellent on-going level of performance as well as rigorous evaluation and consistent quality of training and standards, finance and administration, communications/public relations, and systems;
Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals;
Assist with the recruitment, screening, interviewing, and evaluation of adjunct faculty;
Provide leadership for staff development activities to assure the realization of the long-term institutional goals to acquire and maintain state of the art technology and equipment in the classroom and for curricular development, providing support to students, faculty and staff;
Identify, develop, evaluate and implement program goals, objectives and policies;
Oversee and assist in the revision and expansion of the curriculum as necessary to meet the needs of the community and maintain compliance with the Education Code and Title 5;
Prepare annual goals, participate in planning activities, and facilitate completion of goals that support the college's mission, priorities, and strategic plan;
Seek and understand innovative techniques, subjects, and technologies to advance training and standards and drive innovation toward their adoption;
Oversee the preparation of course schedules and ensure they are distributed appropriately and in a timely manner;
Monitor load and other district restrictions of work hours;
Assist in the development of curriculum that meets State, regional and college standards;
Oversee the State Fire Marshall Accreditation Review and any other applicable State reports;
Develop, prepare, implement and monitor Instructional Service Agreements (ISA's) with local agencies;
Establish and maintain partnerships with local schools, educational agencies, business organizations, and the community which promote and benefit programs and students;
Oversee all financial activities of the department including management, audit of budget and other related fiscal activities;
Identify, develop, coordinate, and implement grant opportunities that promote and expand funding sources to support the department and programs;
Develop and oversee the maintenance of Fire Technology facilities and resources including ensuring compliance with all applicable Federal, State, local and college safety requirements;
Participate in recruitment of students to Fire Technology programs;
Develop outreach and support services to attract underrepresented students to the Fire Academy program;
Assist in the counseling and registration of students;
Attend professional conferences and designated Fire Technology agency training, advisory committee, regional and State meetings to stay current on public safety issues and curricula;
Provide leadership for program development and work directly with the Dean and assigned departments to plan for curriculum additions, modifications, and deletions;
Set priorities for resource needs;
Provide program analysis and multi-year educational plans and participate in strategic and long-range instructional planning for the district;
Confer with faculty regarding ideas for program improvement to identify resources for development through grants and special projects;
Be entrepreneurial in seeking additional funding sources;
Provide leadership for and assist faculty and others, where appropriate, in the development and assessment of course, program, and institutional student learning outcomes to improve student learning within their programs of responsibility;
Facilitate meetings with the Fire Technology Advisory Committee and fire service related agencies and organizations;
Perform additional administrative duties and services as requested and assigned; and
Assist in the advancement of the institution's vitality and growth.
An earned masters degree from an accredited college or university; AND
One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrators administrative assignment; OR
Possession of a valid California Community College Supervisory Credential.

Five years of full-time paid professional fire related experience with a background in teaching Fire Technology and California State Fire Marshal Fire Officer courses;
Experience equivalent to at least five years of full-time teaching and/or professional experience in any of the disciplines taught in the division;
An earned degree in Fire Administration, or Fire Technology;
Teaching/coordinating experience in a Basic Fire Academy;
Possess or qualify for a California Fire Service Training and Education Master Instructors Certificate;
Possess a valid Class B California Drivers License;
A passion to drive the profession toward positive change through training and standards;
Demonstrated effective communication both oral and written, collaboration and delegating skills;
Ability to use software tools to generate and analyze data to assist in the decision making process;
Have a strong understanding of the administration of Fire Technology programs, including an understanding of how technology can aid their delivery;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with persons of diverse backgrounds, including faculty, students, classified professionals, and administrators;
Evidence of effective planning in the management, supervision, and evaluation of the work of others;
Management experience in public safety/Fire Technology related fields;
Knowledge of Fire Technology regulatory requirements;
Experience in teaching, coordinating, supporting, scheduling, and staffing both lecture and laboratory classes;
Demonstrated ability to acquire and administer external funding for support of programs in the department;
Ability to use organizational skills that enable the performance of duties in a timely fashion with attention to detail.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary is $104,906 $132,196 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,021 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

A hiring recommendation will be made by the President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
