Job Description Summary:
Manages the teacher certification programs, Educational Aide/Paraeducator training, and other related programs as assigned.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks

  • Manages, implements, and facilitates the teacher and principal certification programs (i.e. admission, curriculum, field-based experiences, clinical teaching, internship, practicum), Educational Aide/Paraeducator training, Translating and Interpreting program, and other programs as assigned.
  • Develops, tracks, and analyzes and implements community needs assessments for new courses and programs. Monitors changing laws and requirements. Confirms all new course work with relevant state agencies, credentialing, and accreditation organizations for certifications and approval, and required professional continuing education units (CEU) for license/certification and renewal.
  • Identifies members of the required advisory committee, schedules and conducts annual meeting.
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, assigns, oversees, mentors, and terminates CE instructors. Negotiates CE instructor agreements and evaluates hourly CE instructors in the development and delivery of training programs. Ensures that all CE instructors have required skills and certifications/licenses. Manages instructor payroll.
  • Monitors staffing need, supervises staff.
  • Analyzes budgets for all programs in the teaching and learning area.
  • Monitors the progress of programs and courses. Evaluates the effectiveness of programs and performance of CE instructors to ensure customer satisfaction, program quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Addresses concerns of staff, instructors and candidates.
  • Reviews and approves students' drops, adds transfers, and grade changes.
  • Conducts weekly staff meetings;
  • Represents the programs in Teaching & Learning area on various committees, meetings, visits.
  • Serves as communication liaison with area employers, industry specific professional organizations and advisory boards, potential students, and other groups to support communication flow and promotional efforts.
  • Assists Austin Community College Grant Writing Department to develop, write, revise, edit, and submit grant proposals to funding agencies at a quality level that supports the likelihood of award; ensures grant submission criteria are met in grant proposals.
  • Plans and implements special projects.
  • Functions as Legal Authority for TEAL access at Texas Education Agency (TEA).
  • Completes reports for Title II and Texas Education Agency annual data collection and other as required.
  • Researches new developments in teacher preparation.
  • Attends the State Board for Educator Certification meetings for rule changes.
  • Facilitates Community/Jr. College Consortium for Teacher Certification monthly meetings.
  • Ensures compliance with all state and federal laws pertaining to teacher certification.
  • Responds to inquiries about teacher certification in Texas.
  • Mentor other community college teacher certification programs.



Knowledge

  • Texas Administrative Code for initial teacher certification and principal certification.
  • Data documentation, manipulation, and reporting processes.

Required Work Experience

  • Two years related work experience (including one year supervisory experience).
  • Completion of the ACC Supervisor Certificate Series Program will satisfy the supervisory experience required for this position.



Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree.


Preferred Education

  • Master's degree with minimum 2 years' experience in higher education.



Other Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Texas Teacher Certification or Principal Certification through the Texas Education Agency (TEA)
  • Minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience



Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.

Salary Range

$51,822 - $64,777
