Definition:
Are you interested in creating an engaging and supportive educational environment for students who are part of an equity-driven community? Join us in our vision of building a community of educational excellence where students representing diverse experiences and identities feel connected and supported in pursuit of their goals and aspirations.

The West Valley-Mission Community College District invites applications for our Fall 2024 Faculty Diversity Internship Program.

The Faculty Diversity Internship Program (FDIP) aims to connect equity-minded administrators, faculty, and staff at WVMCCD to mentor individuals who aspire to become culturally competent instructors at a California Community College. The FDIP also has a specialized track for non-instructional faculty such as academic counselors.

This internship program is one semester in length. The program will offer a $2000 stipend for each intern for the semester. Interns will have the opportunity to shadow experienced faculty and attend informational workshops on key aspects of implementing equity-minded principals in a community college setting. The goal of the program is to increase the diversity of our community college faculty to better serve our student population.

Interns are required to attend eight mandatory professional development training programs. These programs will be held at either West Valley College or Mission College during Fall semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. Interns are required to observe 15 hours of classroom instruction and 12 mentor meeting hours, with mentors at either West Valley College or Mission College during the Spring 2024 semester. The professional development activities and training content will include Employee Orientation and Onboarding, Foundations of Integrating Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility and Belonging (DEIAB), Curriculum Design, Instruction and Assessment, Theory and Practice, Effective Teaching and Classroom Communication Strategies, Understanding Unconscious Bias, and mock interviews.
