South Central College
Dean of Nursing and Allied Health

South Central College, with campuses in North Mankato and Faribault, Minnesota, invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of Nursing and Allied Health. Reporting to the Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs, the Dean provides leadership, direction and support to the college-wide Nursing and Allied Health departments.

While South Central College (SCC) was founded in 2005, it is the product of a long and rich history dating back to 1946. Today's institution is a comprehensive community and technical college within the 37-member Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), SCC awards certificates, diplomas, and degrees that prepare students for careers in a variety of settings. Many courses and programs are offered online or as hybrid courses. The college serves more than 4700 students. Almost half of the students are full-time and 47 percent are female. Students of color comprise approximately 20 percent of the student body.

The North Mankato campus is located in the Minnesota River Valley less than two hours from Minneapolis-Saint Paul. The Faribault campus is just 25 minutes from the Twin Cities. Both have low costs of living and an abundance of recreational, sporting, and cultural opportunities.

The Department of Nursing and Allied Health is comprised of eight programs to prepare people for careers as Dental Assistants, Emergency Medical Service and Intensive Care Paramedic Technicians, Health Services Broad Field graduates, Health Unit Coordinators, Medical Assistants, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Nurses and Phlebotomists. The Department has two department chairs, one administrative assistant, 18.95 FTE, and 16 adjuncts. Approximately 400 students are enrolled in the programs.

The Dean of Nursing and Allied Health enjoys the freedom to plan, initiate, and implement actions and activities necessary for effective operation of the Nursing and Allied Health departments insofar as they are consistent with requirements of governmental and regulatory agencies and the constraints of college policies. The Dean provides leadership and management of four major areas of responsibility: (1) direction of the College's nursing and allied health programs on two campuses; (2) provision of leadership to the nursing and allied health faculty; (3) serving as academic leader for the several programs; and (4) serving as liaison between the nursing and allied health programs with regional, state, and national agencies as well as with internal and external stakeholders.

Minimum qualifications include: (1) master's degree in nursing; (2) current professional nursing license and obtaining a MN license within 30 days of employment; (3) three years of leadership experience in nursing education; (4) problem-solving ability, delegation skills, and team management skills; (5) knowledge of health care industry; (6) excellent communication skills. Preferred qualifications include: (1) doctoral or other advanced degree; (2) accreditation experience; (3) administrative experience in health care; (4) knowledge of compliance; (5) teaching experience; (6) experience in a two-year college; (7) experience with employee union contract management; (8) skills in prioritization, conducting meetings, delegation, and follow-up to assigned tasks and projects.
