BHCC seeks a Practical Nursing Program Director who demonstrates a passion for teaching and a desire to join faculty and staff to expand and create new strategies for student success. S/he must be experienced teaching in learning communities or willing to become proficient in learning community pedagogy and practice once hired, as well as be adept in the assessment of learning outcomes and in the use of technology in the classroom.

The Program Director for the Practical Nursing Program reports to the Dean of Nurse Education, Medical Imaging and will be responsible for the organization, administration, periodic review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the Practical Nursing Program. The Director will be responsible for meeting Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) requirements and National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) accreditation standards. The Program Director will teach didactic and clinical courses.

This is a 9 month position plus 6 weeks in the summer. The Director has the opportunity to earn upwards of $100,000. As part of the Massachusetts state public higher education system, the position offers excellent benefits.

Specific Duties
•     Teach Practical Nursing courses
•     Provide clinical instruction to Practical Nursing Program students
•     Evaluate, maintain and assess clinical affiliates to ensure these sites provide students with education meeting the standards of quality for accreditation
•     Evaluate student performance in the classroom and clinical setting using outcomes-based assessment
•     Utilize a variety of appropriate teaching strategies to promote students’ critical thinking skills
•     Develop instructional material consistent with course objectives
•     Participate in determining appropriate goals and objectives of practical nursing courses and assist in developing course standards
•     Teach in learning communities and engage students in community service
•     Use new simulations and computer technologies in the classroom
•     Maintain expertise and currency in the area of teaching responsibility
•     Comply with the duties as stipulated in the Massachusetts Community College Council Collective Bargaining Agreement
•     Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population

•     Master’s degree in Nursing and current licensure or eligibility as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
•     Five years’ experience in Nursing or its equivalent within the last eight years
•     Working knowledge of PNP Self-Study
•     Three years teaching experience in a Practical Nursing Program
•     Online teaching experience (preferred)
•     Experience working in a union environment (preferred)

About the Practical Nursing Program
The Practical Nursing Program at Bunker Hill Community College is a new program and currently a candidate for accreditation. The first graduating class is approaching and the College boasts excellent pass rates. Students graduating from the Practical Nursing Certificate program are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). Employment of Licensed Practical Nurses is projected to grow 25 percent from 2012 to 2022, significantly faster than the average for all occupations.
