Job Posting Title: Faculty, Nursing Simulation Coordinator
Job Description Summary: The Professional Nursing Simulation Coordinator is responsible for managing simulation activities for the Professional Nursing Program. This role will be planning, implementing, and evaluating the integration of simulation into the curriculum to promote student learning, critical thinking and clinical decision making. The individual must possess exceptional organizational and communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team committed to student success, while promoting a culture of belonging and connection.
Job Description:
Department Work:
The Professional Nursing Department offers a multitrack Associate Degree Nursing Program and the RN-to-BSN program. These programs are offered across multiple campuses via face to face, online, and dual credit courses across Central Texas. The department is committed to fostering student development of knowledge, skills and competencies required to provide safe patient care in increasingly complex and varied healthcare settings. The department promotes integration of evidence-based practice and technology as well as professional standards and competencies in the curriculum, while fostering a culture of student success.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepare and teach courses in the field of Professional Nursing to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
- Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and departmental governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other departmental activities.
- Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
- Serve as a mentor to students in the Professional Nursing program.
- Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
- Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
- Support division and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.
- Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, executive vice chancellor.
Additional Duties
- Plans, implements, and evaluates the integration of simulation scenarios into the curriculum to promote student learning, critical thinking and clinical decision making.
- Evaluate, collect, analyze, and report data on the effectiveness of simulation on student learning.
- Manages simulation activities for assigned campus and other campuses as needed.
- May prepare, teach coursework and guide faculty development in utilizing simulation technologies.
- Coordinate and collaborate with skills lab staff and spaces associated with simulation, while maintaining associated equipment.
- Serves as a liaison with area health care facilities regarding practice policy changes that impact simulation learning activities and implement changes in learning activities.
- Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations for improvement and innovation, and plans change initiatives for the integration of simulation in clinical education.
- Creates and delivers professional presentations regarding all aspects of simulation to local, state, and national groups.
- Investigates and submits proposals for potential grant opportunities to fund new simulation initiatives.
Technology
- Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
- Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.).
- Understands and has experience managing and caring for simulation mannequins and the technology used to support simulation as needed.
- Performing set up and breakdowns of simulation scenarios as needed.
Principal Professional Standards
- Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.
- Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
- Meeting with Simulation Faculty and Staff to plan and coordinate simulation activities.
- Attend and participate in collegewide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
- Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
- Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.
Required Education
In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements:
- Master's of Science in Nursing
SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on the courses taught within the discipline.
Other Requirements
- Current unencumbered RN license in the State of Texas.
Required Work Experience
In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements:
- Three years of non-teaching work related experience within Nursing providing direct patient care.
SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on the courses taught within the discipline.

- A strong commitment to teaching in a community college setting, including teaching practices that reflect an understanding of the multicultural classroom and the benefits of cultural awareness and sensitivity in the classroom and the workplace.
