Supervision Received

The Chancellor will provide guidance and training as necessary, but the incumbent will be expected to consult with other members of the campus community, including Cabinet members and Office of the Board of Trustees, to ascertain information needed for the various responsibilities of the position.

Direction and Independence of Action

The Director will be expected to work independently and in collaboration with the Chancellor. Consequences of significant error in the work responsibilities are great. The Director, Chancellor's Office Operations and Projects interprets and follows policies and guidelines of the institution, the Chancellor, and the Board of Trustees, as well as relevant policy and law of national, state, and local governments. This individual must exhibit the highest degree of integrity and professionalism. Personal discretion is critical. This individual must work on a regular basis with confidential information while supporting an environment where transparency is highly valued.


The primary function of the Office of the Chancellor is to provide leadership and direction to the District, the colleges (Coastline, Golden West, Orange Coast), and the community to advance student success and economic development. The Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer of the District and serves as the senior administrative leader and official spokesperson on behalf of our Board of Trustees and district community at the local, state, national, and international levels for the advancement of the goals and objectives of our District Community.

Distinguishing Career Features

The Director, Chancellor's Office Operations and Projects is the principle aide to the Chancellor, representing the Chancellor to internal and external constituencies, as required. In collaboration with other members of the Chancellor's Executive Cabinet, the Director is responsible for coordinating and guiding a wide range of topics in all aspects of District operations and external relationships. Establishes and maintains effective planning and management; supports the Chancellor in the fulfillment of the District's mission; and, supports the educational excellence and general development and welfare of the institution through shared governance. The incumbent serves as the initial point of contact for the various constituent groups, and provides internal coordination and leadership on district goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Manages and coordinates the strategic agenda for the Chancellor, working with senior leadership to develop action plans, monitor projects, track status, coordinate communications, and ensure implementation of the Chancellor's directives and initiatives.      
* Supports the Chancellor in leading an effective senior management team through management of the team's project timelines and preparation of materials to advance discussions in governance groups and the Executive Cabinet.      
* Initiates appropriate consultation with constituent groups and coordinates communications and follow-up to ensure effective implementation of programs and initiatives.      
* Ensures targeted research and analysis on important issues is conducted and coordinates briefing materials on significant issues before the Chancellor for recommendation.      
* Leads and completes special projects and assignments as required, particularly those that involve inter-divisional implications.      
* Plans and organizes annual retreat for the Executive Cabinet.      
* Serves as the Chancellor's principle liaison with the Executive Cabinet; ensures coordination and preparation of information for Board of Trustee meetings; coordinates campus visits by Chancellor and guests of the District.      
* Oversees effective execution of the staff functions of the Chancellor's Office, including daily operations, operating budget, and staff support.      
* Works closely with the District Public Affairs Department on the development and implementation of key communication strategies and messages to be conveyed by the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees and other documents such as speeches, newsletters, and other reports as necessary.      
* Manages the flow of internal and external communication for the Chancellor's Office and the Board of Trustees Office, including protocols for scheduling, correspondence, e-mail, tracking, and filing.      
* Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.
