Job Description Summary:
Responsible to prepare and deliver coursework in Medical Laboratory Technology and Phlebotomy. Ability to employ engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to student success, an understanding of potentially culturally biased teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Professors in the department serve College students from a wide range of backgrounds, including dual enrolled high school students earning college credit. This faculty position will provide instruction via classroom face-to-face and distance learning modalities.

Job Description:

The Medical Technology Department is comprised of two programs in which students will earn their Associate of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Technology or a certificate in Phlebotomy Technician and be eligible for national credentialing examinations. The Medical Technology department is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). We offer comprehensive didactic and clinical education with on-campus labs and direct patient care experience in every semester of the program. The program is committed to ensuring our curriculum aligns with industry standards through collaboration with our clinical affiliates and laboratory professional organizations.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

• Prepare and teach courses in the field of Medical Laboratory Technology and Phlebotomy to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
• Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and departmental governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other departmental activities.
• Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
• Serve as a mentor to students in the Medical Laboratory Technology and Phlebotomy programs.
• Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
• Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
• Support division and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.
• Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
• Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, executive vice chancellor.

Additional Duties

• Conduct clinical visits following the program's policies and procedures.
• The position will involve course prep work, student assessment, grading, and other responsibilities as assigned.
• May include occasional evening/weekend duties such as outreach events.
• Instruct on multiple campuses.

Technology

• Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
• Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)

Required Education

In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science with current licensure, certification or registration; or
• Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with current licensure, certification or registration

SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on the courses taught within the discipline.

Required Work Experience

In accordance with Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements:

• Three years of non-teaching, industry-related work experience.

Salary Range

$72,507 - $108,424 (Based on a 12 month contract to start Fall 2025)
