Minimum Qualifications:
For this position, employees must have at least one of the following:
1. Master’s degree (or higher) in physics, astronomy, or astrophysics from an accredited college or university; OR
2. Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND a Master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, meteorology, or geophysics from an accredited college or university; OR 3. Valid California Community College instructor credential appropriate to the subject per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990); OR
4. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of items 1 or 2 above .

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of one (1) years full-time (or part-time equivalent) of successful experience teaching physics and astronomy lecture and lab at the college level.
  • Experience in alternate instructional styles, such as computer-aided and individualized instruction.
  • Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Desired Qualifications:
Preference will be given to those candidates demonstrating a high level of professional expertise on the basis of:

  • College teaching experience in calculus based and/or non-calculus based physics sequence and astronomy.
  • Experience with large lecture format.
  • Knowledge of and ability to integrate computer technology in the classroom and be able to use such technology to offer curriculum and instruction through distance delivery modes, as appropriate.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruct a variety of lower-division physical science courses, which may include Introduction to Physics sequence (non-calculus based), General Physics sequence (calculus based), and Astronomy. Assist in the development and implementation of physics and astronomy curriculum. Participate in general faculty functions related to the education program, in-service and professional development. Assignment may include day, evening, and/or weekend hours.
