General Statement
The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach will work with the Head Men's Basketball Coach and the Director of Athletics to facilitate all aspects of coaching.
Supervision Received
The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach reports to the Head Basketball Coach and the Director of Athletics.
Supervision Exercised The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach supervises the student/athletes who are involved in the Men's Basketball Program.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assisting in the preparation and organization of practice sessions.
- Utilizing sound teaching techniques in preparation for games and conduct of practice sessions.
- Recognizing and assuming responsibility for themselves and team members.
- Actively assisting in the recruitment of quality student/athletes.
- Informing student/athletes of aims, purposes and values of the Quinsigamond Community College Basketball Program.
- Actively enhancing a positive image of Quinsigamond Community College.
- Scouting future opponents, when feasible.
- Offering guidance and assistance to student/athletes.
- Serving as sole authority at practices and games in the absence of the Head Basketball Coach.
- Having knowledge in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.
- Conducting all activities within the rules and regulations of the College, the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Massachusetts Community College Athletic Conference.
- Having a certified Driver's License.
- Making student/athletes promote a drug and alcohol awareness program.
- Being aware of the academic responsibilities of the student/athlete and conducting practices in a manner so as not to interfere with their academic success.
- Work actively with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork. Respect the function of dissent in an academic institution while advancing a collegial atmosphere of campus collaboration.
- Embrace the ideals of diversity and inclusiveness and support the equal rights of all people by advancing the understanding and appreciation of differences including age, race, gender, ability, religious convictions, socio-economic status, ethnic heritage, or sexual orientation.
- Provide flexible, responsive and high quality service to all, be they students, community, or staff, and continuously assess processes and procedures and revise accordingly.
- Perform other duties as assigned. (I.e. uniform and equipment management)
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
- College coaching and playing experience.
- Experience and background in care and prevention of athletic injuries.
- Must have a certified Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduation from a four-year college. CPR certified
