Position Title: Criminal Justice, Part-Time Faculty

General Description

The Department of Social Science invites qualified applications for an adjunct position in Criminal Justice, teaching up to 2 courses in the Spring semester and up to 2 courses in the Fall semester.

Social Science comprises a variety of academic disciplines concerned with society and the relationship among individuals within a society. This department provides students with a strong liberal arts education that enables students to succeed in both academic and career pathways. Our amazing associate degree programs, certificate programs and multidisciplinary courses prepare students to pursue their bachelor’s degrees and also careers in many fields. We offer opportunities for students to learn from experienced faculty, to conduct research, to gain practical skills related to their areas of study, and to perform fieldwork related to their interests.

Teaching faculty are an integral part of the larger Academic and Student Success Division at CCP including Workforce Development or Career Training. Specific Responsibilities
  • Teach in-person and/or online Criminal Justice courses as assigned, aligned with the College’s mission and program learning outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain course materials, syllabi, and assessments that support student learning and success.
  • Establish and maintain a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Incorporate instructional technology and learning management systems to support diverse learners and enhance accessibility.
  • Hold office hours and provide academic guidance and support to students.
  • Contribute to student retention, persistence, and completion through proactive engagement and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Participate in course, program, and institutional assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Commitment to the College’s Mission: Demonstrate a sense of connection and responsibility for helping the College to achieve success through a commitment to its mission, vision, and values.
  • External and Internal Community Relations: Actively participate in the academic life of the College; including participation in graduation, recruitment events, general assemblies, student life activities and other cross functional teams. Create learning opportunities for students inside and outside of the classroom, including opportunities to teach dual-enrollment high school students.
  • Collaboration: Communicate effectively, share vision, focus on people, initiate positive change, value differences, and foster collaboration. Work with and inspire others to achieve college, department, and individual success. Proactively identify/address problems.
  • Respect for Diversity: Establish an inclusive environment in the classroom. Demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the College’s faculty, staff and students.
  • Assessment: Full participation in the assessment of student learning and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institution levels.
  • Student Success: Strive for excellence in teaching, applying best practices in discipline, and modeling behaviors that encourage student success and retention. Utilize innovative teaching strategies and technologies for online learning and other technology tools to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population. Maintain office hours to meet with students outside of the classroom and respond to questions or concerns.
  • Leadership and Development: Commitment to professional learning and growth, student mentoring, and service to the profession. Remain current in the use of technology, developments within the field of discipline, and developments related to teaching and student success.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Criminology, or a Juris Doctor (JD).
  • Postsecondary teaching experience in Criminal Justice, including in-person and online instruction.
  • Experience developing curriculum and designing course materials.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with instructional technology and online learning platforms.
  • Availability to teach day and/or evening courses.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience in the criminal justice field.
  • Teaching experience at an urban community college.
  • Established connections within the Philadelphia criminal justice or public service community.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching diverse student populations.
  • Bilingual or other language proficiency.
