The Position:
Applications are currently being accepted for the Data Architect/Data Modeler in District's Information Technology. Hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. However, selected candidates must be willing to adjust work days/hours as directed based on the department's needs.

Please note that an employee may be transferred to any site at the option of the Chancellor.

Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology, plan, organize, direct and manage the design and implementation of the District's data warehouse system.

1. Plan, design and manage all activities related to the data modeling, architecture and implementation of the District's Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) project.

2. Consult with and advise the Director of Information Technology and administrative systems leadership on systems and project priorities.

3. Coordinate and manage activities with business stakeholders and general users on the creation and management of the data model and overall architecture of the EDW.

4. Work closely with Business Systems Analysts (BSA) from the Institutional Research and Effectiveness organization on the data dictionary, business terms definition and data governance.

5. Research, evaluate and transform users' requirements into the EDW Data Model, including the Metadata model.

6. Establish and manage users' Data Marts and transform operational data into actionable information.

7. Establish and maintain compliance with standards and procedures relating to systems design, development and administration.

8. Work with users and Business Systems Analysts on the creation and management of key ad-hoc and pre-built reports from the EDW using Power Builder, Tableau or any other reporting tools.

9. Prepare and present progress reports on activities related to assigned projects and tasks with IT leadership and functional stakeholders.
10. Manage activities related to the installation and upgrade of institutional software such as Microsoft Azure and Power-BI ; research and review upgrade documentation.

12. Assist with database security and maintenance of database integrity. Manage and coordinate database activities with the Technical Services team and Database Administrators.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Analyze, design and implement an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and provide solutions that maximize performance, effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Create data models and system architectures, both on-premise and on the cloud, for various applications and database needs.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Participate actively in the investigation and analysis of complex problems using interpersonal skills and technical knowledge to draft and propose effective solutions.
  • Participate effectively in the investigation, planning and design of systems and applications projects. Supervise multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Work effectively and in a professional manner with IT and college staff.


Training and Experience:

  • Any combination equivalent to: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Mathematics or related field and seven years of experience including three years as a Programmer/Analyst and five years of database design and data modeling experience.

Pay Information:
Range 4 ($9,311.28 - $15,167.09) per month based on the current Management Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement is commensurate with related experience and promotional rules. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid: medical, dental, and vision plans; sick and vacation leave; and opportunities for professional development. Initial Salary Placement, Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the Management Employees Handbook. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. A temporary probationary period will be applied to the employee entering this assignment.
