Bakersfield College is seeking dedicated, experienced, and motivated individuals to provide leadership, engagement, and discipline expertise in developing and implementing the Physical Therapy Assistant program in collaboration with College of the Sequoias. As a full time faculty member at Bakersfield College, successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to student success through teaching and learning excellence.
The successful candidate for the Physical Therapy position will have relevant experience and/or focused academic study necessary to provide instruction in a full range of Physical Therapy courses.
This assignment may include teaching courses at various locations, different times, and with different modalities. Bakersfield College offers college courses in the greater Bakersfield area, rural communities, correctional facilities and high schools using the following modalities: traditional, face-to-face, online and interactive broadcasts.
Assignments will be made in the fall and spring semesters and during the program's extended summer session. Actual schedule assignments may vary as program and institutional needs are met.
Other duties include: Assuring effective program operations, overseeing program assessment, participation in budget planning, maintenance of programmatic accreditation, participating in personnel recruitment and evaluation. Establishing effective working relationships with personnel from affiliated clinical education centers and assisting with coordination between the college and clinical education agencies; participation in student recruitment and articulation, transfer programs; maintaining subject matter currency; developing and revising curriculum; using computer and technology; assessment of learning outcomes; collegial participation in departmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities.
Education and Experience:
Masters in physical therapy;
- graduation from an accredited physical therapist program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation;
-Five years of experience as a physical therapist
-Holds a current license/certification to practice as a PT or PTA in any United States jurisdiction
-Minimum of 2 years experience in clinical instruction
-Experience in educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation and outcome assessment, including the equivalent of nine credits of coursework in educational foundations.
-Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Card in BLS.
-Demonstrate expertise in basic educational theory and methodology(curricular design, development, implementation and evaluation), instructional design and student evaluation and outcomes assessment
- A demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities. Note: Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service. Note: The screening of candidates will be conducted by a screening committee. The screening committee reserves the right to limit the number of interviews granted. -Experience in Physical Therapy Assistant programmatic accreditation.
-Ability to provide leadership in program and college initiatives.
-Ability and willingness to participate effectively in college committee work and in co curricular and extra-curricular activities that support students and the college.
This is a ten-month (175-day) faculty position
