One of three credit colleges in the San Diego Community College District, City College is an urban campus dedicated to Social Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. City College provides academic and vocational offerings to meet the needs of a diverse student population.

Under the direction of the Dean of Outreach and Enrollment Services the Director manages, supervises, and administers daily operations and the overall direction and management of the Outreach and Community Relations department, the Promise Program, and the Welcome Center. Key administrative duties include ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, developing strategic plans to maximize growth of student outreach and engagement programs, dual and concurrent student enrollment opportunities, and delivering equitable programs and services for students from diverse communities. The Director position will focus on programmatic growth and retention strategies to help address student access and enrollment, persistence, retention, and success while progressing towards meeting the State Chancellor's Vision 2030 goals and maximizing allocation from the Student Centered Funding Formula.

The hours are traditionally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on department and college needs. Major Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and provide supervision to classified professionals and NANCE.
  • Plan, organize, and execute large-scale campus events.
  • Work collaboratively and professionally with faculty, staff and other stakeholders from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, and ethnic communities.
  • Collaborate with City Communications Office on marketing and outreach efforts to increase awareness of City programs and services and increase student participation in concurrent enrollment.
  • Develop or assist in the development of annual budget recommendations and monitor and control expenditures with adopted budget.
  • Provide leadership to the college's outreach functions with may include, but not limited to, recruitment, the development of relationships with feeder high schools, and the development of relationships with community entities from which potential students might be recruited.
  • Lead the college's targeted marketing and outreach efforts capture potential Promise Program participation and grow student engagement and retention year-over-year.
  • Work collaboratively with administrative leadership and Instructional Faculty on promotion of Summer enrichment opportunities for high school concurrent enrollment.
  • Help guide intentional outreach efforts to expand knowledge of dual and concurrent enrollment opportunities to prospective students and families.
  • Collaborate with Financial Aid to increase FAFSA and CA Dream Act Application submissions for current and incoming students.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: a Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate subject area and three years of increasingly responsible experience in outreach, special programs, student services, administration or other experience directly related to the area of assignment, preferably in an institution of higher education.

The following are also required for this academic/educational administrator assignment:
1) Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution, AND
2) One (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's assignment, AND
3) Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
OR
1) Possession of a lifetime California Community College Chief Administrative Officer Credential, AND
2) Two (2) years of recent management experience in an institution of higher education, AND
3) Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff. Desired Qualifications

  • Both of the following: (a) Master's degree; AND (b) One year of formal training, internship, OR leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's assignment.
  • Knowledge of economic and social barriers similar to those encountered by the San Diego City College student population.
  • Understanding of equity-minded student success practices.
  • Background in providing services and supports from a strengths-based approach for diverse student populations.
  • Ability to conceptualize, plan, and implement programs focused on outreach, retention, and student support services and in coordination with other site, district, or community partners and programs.
  • Ability to think through complex systems and provide innovation and input into established and new processes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with on- and off-campus partners and stakeholders.
  • Ability to allocate financial and human resources in accordance with sound management principles and to develop, administer, and control budgets.
  • Ability to analyze student and services data to prepare comprehensive records and reports.
  • Demonstrated experience training, supervising, and evaluating personnel.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
