The Position:
Applications are now being accepted for the position of Assistant Professor, Professional Learning Coordinator beginning November 25, 2022. One of the three colleges in the San Diego Community College District, City College is an urban campus, minutes away from a world-class zoo and Balboa Park, providing academic and career education offerings to meet the needs of a diverse student population. While the current vacancy is at City College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor. The assignment may include day, evening, Saturday, and/or off-campus assignments. This position reports to the Dean of Information and Learning Technology.

Major Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Dean of Information and Learning Technology, the Professional Learning Coordinator will plan, organize, and oversee professional development activities for the college. The coordinator will perform a full range of administrative duties and facilitate activities related to professional development services. The Professional Learning Coordinator will participate in and coordinate training, lectures, and professional development support services. The coordinator will lead the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and priorities for assigned operations and activities that support faculty, classified professionals, supervisors, and managers in meeting the equity and student success goals of the campus. Duties will also include serving on and/or chairing campus committees, maintaining appropriate records, developing required reports, and participating actively in the work of the college and district. The college encourages and supports professional growth, expecting the successful candidate to demonstrate career objectives consistent with the mission of the college.

As part of their duties the coordinator will:

  • Manage professional development staff and resources (including budgets, supplies, technologies, and activities).
  • Plan, research, develop, implement, track, and assess professional development activities for all campus employees.
  • Foster excellence in teaching and learning across the campus.
  • Disseminate and monitor professional development resources available to the campus.
  • Co-chair the Campus Professional Development Advisory Committee with the Dean of Information and Learning Technology.
  • Develop and implement a professional learning network to meet the needs of all employees.
  • Coordinate professional development activities calendar with all other events on campus.
  • Plan and implement on-boarding activities for faculty, classified professionals, supervisors, and managers.
  • Fulfill the responsibilities of a community college faculty in accordance with the position description adopted by the District.
  • Plan, monitor, and report completion of faculty Flex activities ,including Convocation.
  • Collaborate with directors of campus initiatives (i.e. Title III, Equity, Basic Skills, Strong Workforce Programs) to provide professional development opportunities that support and ensure the success of their objectives and the efficient use of initiative funding through shared governance.
  • In collaboration with the AB1725 committee and directors of campus initiatives, identify appropriate funding sources for professional development activities.
  • Serve on campus committees that have a professional development component (i.e. Title III, Equity, Basic Skills, Strong Workforce Programs).



Qualifications:
Any masters degree level discipline in which learning assistance or tutoring is provided at the college where the coordinator is employed;
OR
A masters degree in education, educational psychology, or instructional psychology, or other masters degree with emphasis in adult learning theory

  • Evidence of formal training in adult learning theory and professional development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional development strategies for faculty, classified. professionals, supervisors, and managers which address diverse learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to quality teaching, student success, equity, and academic excellence.
  • Demonstrated understanding of instructional design issues related to teaching and learning in face-to-face and on-line courses.
  • Demonstrated experience with current pedagogy appropriate for community college classrooms.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply effective learning theories, contemporary teaching philosophies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trends in higher education professional development and training.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with advance forms of technology in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated experience participating in campus, regional, statewide, and national professional development organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing programs and budgets, directing staff, and developing reports.
  • Demonstrated experience with the development and implementation of on-boarding programs for personnel functioning in diverse roles within an organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including the ability to effectively plan and establish structures, systems, and processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in meeting deadlines and reaching goals and objectives
  • Demonstrated experience developing programming, including needs assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting program assessment and outcomes evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience with data collection, tracking, evaluation, and reporting methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to market and promote programming.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively collaborating and communicating in a participatory-governance environment.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills necessary to work with classified professionals, faculty, supervisors, managers, and students.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing leadership that promotes institutional reform focused on improving student success.
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying rules, policies, regulations, guidelines, and operational procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines governing California Community Colleges.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both in writing and orally.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.



Licenses:


Pay Information:
Class 1, Step A - Class 6, Step C ($6,032.90 - $8,128.98) per month based on the current AFT - College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Monthly Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
