Job Description

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada, is seeking applicants for a Web College Instructional Designer. This position reports to the Web College Program Manager.

As a Web College Instructional Designer, you will provide support for faculty in the development and design of high quality online and hybrid courses that are consistent with best practices in adult learning theory. You will assist faculty in the development of measurable course and module/unit outcomes, instructional materials, learning activities, and assessments to improve alignment according to the Quality Matters Rubric. You will develop and facilitate professional development sessions and workshops for faculty and other stakeholders in online course design best practices, the use of instructional technologies related to online and hybrid courses, and information related to Web College services. You will assist faculty to select and incorporate Open Educational Resource (OER) materials in online courses. As an instructional designer, you will explore technology-based applications for their use in the online and hybrid classroom. This position will be a Web College advocate to faculty and encourage faculty to incorporate best practices in course design and facilitation while making use of dynamic technologies in the online classroom.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Education, or related field.

2. Two years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience in higher education, particularly at a two-year college.

2. Familiarity with Canvas or equivalent LMS.

3. Familiarity with the Quality Matters rubric and the QM course certification process.

4. Experience with Open Educational Resources

5. Knowledge of accessibility and ADA requirements for online course delivery.

6. Experience developing and facilitating professional development for adult learners, both online and in person.

Responsibilities:
Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds. Teaching and workload assignments are scheduled throughout the calendar year, and may require evening and weekend obligations at one or more college locations.
1. Work collaboratively with faculty to design and develop high quality, innovative online courses.
2. Apply adult learning theory and curriculum and instructional design theory necessary for excellent online course design and implementation.
3. Identify and provide consultation when needed in alignment with the Quality Matters Rubric.
4. Collaborate with faculty for increased instructional technology adoption in the curriculum.
5. Design, develop, and maintain technical documentation in the use of the LMS.
6. Provide technical support for students, faculty, and staff using the LMS system and other Web College technologies
7. Coordinate and conduct training on Open Educational Resources (OER).
8. Coordinate and conduct training in best practices for online course delivery and facilitation.
9. Participate in the planning of future Web College needs, including sourcing innovative technologies, anticipating professional development needs and interests of faculty, and marketing Web College services to the TMCC community.
10. Participate in professional development opportunities in order to stay informed and up-to-date on industry trends and best practices.
11. Understand and accept the role of partner in an educational enterprise serving the best interests of the students.
12. Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment/Schedule

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional evenings or Saturday hours may needed.

This position requires collaboration and personal interaction with many members of the TMCC community. As such, regular and predictable on-site attendance is required.

Salary and Benefits Information:

Salary: $60,519 - $75,649 initial salary placement will be dependent on education level and years of experience.
