Job Scope:
Working in cooperation with faculty and administrative colleagues, the Instructor or Assistant Professor of Computer Science is responsible for providing high quality instruction, advising, curriculum development/review, and dynamic, student centered, growth oriented leadership and related activities designed to advance College programs and associated courses in information technology.

The Instructor or Assistant Professor of Computer Science will teach the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester in the discipline which may include: programming, management information systems, data structures, computer organization and architecture, cybersecurity, and others as appropriate.

Other professional responsibilities include academic support and advising, participating in departmental and College-wide governance structures to ensure the quality and integrity of the overall curriculum, program development, participating in the assessment of student learning and course/program effectiveness, staying current in the discipline through involvement in appropriate professional development activities, and otherwise supporting the mission of the College by engaging in appropriate service activities.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Teaches assigned courses in qualified discipline(s).
2. Participates in curriculum development and maintenance.
3. Provides academic support and advising to students including establishing and maintaining a schedule of office hours.
4. Participates in college governance by serving on joint, ad hoc, college, division, and discipline committees.
5. Participates in the recruitment and hiring of new faculty through participation on search committees.
6. Participates in the planning and development of affiliated partnerships including the establishment of an Advisory Committee.
7. Participates in college and community service activities.
8. Participates in professional growth activities and maintains awareness of new trends and developments within areas of instructional responsibility.
9. Recommends textbooks and supplementary materials (software, etc.) appropriate to the needs of students and course requirements.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education: Master’s degree in Computer Science, education, or related field required.

Experience & Knowledge: 5 years employment in the field; teaching experience in postsecondary and/or vocation education preferred; demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population. Familiarity and/or experience with many of the following, or related technologies: Java, C++, C#, Python, SQL, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Visual Basic, Linux, Core Computer Science data structures/algorithms.

Computer Skills: MS Office, LMS such as Schoology preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: COMPTIA A+, COMPTIA Net+, CCNA, MCP, MCSA, MCSE and/or MCT, or other computer certifications are highly desired but not required.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to write, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally have to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work Environment: Typical office environment with a quiet to moderate noise level.

Rank & Salary: Rank and Salary are governed by the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and are dependent upon qualifications and experience.
