Essential Functions:

The ideal candidate will share Clovis Community College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. We currently enroll over 10,000 students of which 38% are Latinx, 1% are American Indian/Alaska Native, 8% are Asian, 3% are Black/African American, 42% are White, and 6% are multiracial. CCC is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Providing instruction in Environmental Science on the Clovis Community College campus, in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed, the instructor will be responsible for:
  • Teaching classes in environmental sciences, designing programs, writing curriculum and stewarding the curriculum-approval process;
  • Serving on college and district committees;
  • UP planning/program review and involvement in other types of institutional planning and resource allocation;
  • Developing and assessing students and program-level outcomes to improve student learning; and
  • Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters in interdisciplinary area;


OR

  • Masters in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper division or graduate coursework in at least one other constituent discipline;


OR

  • A valid California Community College credential;


OR

  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).


All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.
(NOTE: The Interdisciplinary Studies discipline is provided to allow for those cases where it is locally determined that a course must be taught by someone with qualifications that exceed a single discipline. The constituent disciplines can include any disciplines found in the Masters List.)

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Earned Masters Degree in Soil or Water Sciences, Ecology, Environmental Toxicology, or Environmental Sciences or related discipline;
  • Background in environmental toxicology, soil and/or water sciences, ecology, and environmental sciences;
  • Field experience in toxicology, water and soil sampling, and/or agricultural biology research is required;
  • Experience in diagnosing and remediating knowledge and skills deficiencies;
  • Experience with education technology (computer, interactive video, smart podia, etc);
  • Experience working with students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
  • Proven ability to collaborate with external stakeholders on a variety of projects;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusions of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom;
  • Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.


Conditions of Employment:

177 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary is $54,029 $81,342 based on education and experience. A doctoral stipend of $2,021 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:

Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who submit all the required documents and who meet the qualifications, a selection advisory committee will determine the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview.

The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions. Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the recommended candidates. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services and President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
