This position is Monday-Friday 8:00 am -4:30 pm. This is a remote position. Up to 19 hours per week.

Criminal Background Check

Pre-employment criminal background checks are required for all Staff and Faculty positions. Pre-employment urinalyses drug screens are also required for all top candidates considered for positions in ACC’s College Police department.

General Statement of Job

To provide specialized, short-term instruction to Upward bound students as a way to enhance students’ ability to gain content mastery and be successful in the respective content area.

Instructor will work with Upward Bound High School students.

Description of Duties and TasksEssential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provides specialized, short term instruction to high school students.

Develops and correlates curriculum and instruction to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards within the respective content area.

Utilizes best practices in regard to classroom management in order to foster student persistence and success.

Collaborates closely with other Upward Bound Advisors, tutors, and other appropriate personnel to maximize academic benefits for each individual student.

Attends program meetings as assigned.

Manages time and classroom effectively.

Maintains up-to-date records of student grades and progress.

Assists with additional summer program duties as assigned.

Additional Job Specific Duties

Create a project for participants to complete and present at the conclusion of the summer program.

Upon entry in the UB program, participants are asked to list their career interests during the application/interview phase. Once students are selected to participate and are marked active, the UB Advisor will sit with the student to provide an individual contact on academic advising and career planning in order to discuss career opportunities within the field. Students are then introduced to the UB Guided Pathways and given a brief overview. The students will rank in order of highest to least interested. Once the student has selected the pathway of their choice, the student is placed in one of the 7 UB Guided Pathway course tracks. Below you will find the course tracks for the Communications / Liberal Art pathway:


Course Offerings: Media Relations or Public Speaking/Debate Students who are interested in communications and/or liberal arts will start off the 1st year learning about media and how the concept functions in our society and learning how to engage audiences in various topics by gaining skills in public speaking

Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills including tact, patience, diplomacy, sensitivity, and flexibility as it relates to working with students from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and learning styles.

Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds, including Upward Bound students, instructors, tutors, and staff.

Ability to apply knowledge of current education and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and principles.

Ability to apply knowledge of the subject area.

Technology Skills

Demonstrated proficiency using standard office software applications.

Required Work Experience

At least one year of related experience in the discipline.

Preferred Work Experience

Experience developing and preparing course materials/syllabi.

Experience delivering lectures, leading discussions and/or laboratory experiments.

Experience conducting evaluations of student performance and assignment of grades.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in the teaching discipline.

Preferred Education

Master’s degree in the teaching discipline.

Other Preferred Qualifications

Valid Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) credential. College-level teaching experience can substitute for the teaching certificate.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a learning lab environment on campus in an academic setting.

Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.

Occasional lifting of objects up to 20 pounds.
