Job Description Summary:
Responsible to prepare and deliver medical and/or Vascular Sonography coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to success equity, an understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.

Program Information

The Sonography Program is comprised of two tracks in which students will earn their Associate of Applied Science, Advanced Technical Certificate, and eligibility for national credentialing examinations in Diagnostic Cardiovascular or Medical-Vascular (including OBGYN) Sonography. Additionally, we offer an Advanced Technical Certificate in Cardiac Sonography for credentialed sonographers seeking formal education in this specialty. The Sonography department is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). We offer comprehensive didactic and clinical education with on-campus labs and direct patient care experience in every semester of the program. The program is committed to ensuring our curriculum aligns with industry standards through collaboration with our clinical affiliates and sonography professional organizations.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties

  • This adjunct position will assist in preparing students for all aspects of the medical and/or vascular sonography profession, with a focus on clinical skills instruction in the on-campus lab setting.
  • Potential for theory (lecture) course instruction in the medical and/or vascular specialties after successful completion of an assigned training period.
  • Conduct clinical visits following the program's policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and teach courses in the field of sonography to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner that does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
  • Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, executive vice chancellor.



Additional Duties

  • This position involves direct medical and/or vascular sonography skills instruction at ACC's Eastview Campus Sonography Lab, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, 1-2 days per week.
  • The position will involve course prep work, student assessment, grading, and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • May include occasional evening/weekend duties such as open lab and outreach events.



Technology

  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, email, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.).
  • Preferred experience using a PACS system.



Principal Professional Standards

  • Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.
  • Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
  • Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
  • Attend and participate in collegewide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
  • Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
  • Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.



Required Education

Educational requirements in accordance with SACSCOC accreditation standards. No substitution for educational requirements.

  • Associate of Science or Associate of Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography



Required Work Experience

  • Three years of non-teaching, industry-related work experience in the field of medical and/or vascular sonography.



Other Requirements

  • Experience teaching students in the clinical setting.



Qualities of a Successful Candidate

  • Active Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Abdomen, RDMS (AB) and/or
  • Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS).
