The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching beginning, intermediate and advanced courses in areas including, but not limited to, graphic design, typography, publication design, environmental graphics, design history and theory, information design, and digital and interaction design. Faculty members will actively participate in the continuing development and assessment of program curriculum; maintain professional currency; and employ instructional methods and technologies designed to enhance the success and persistence of all students, especially those in historically underrepresented and underserved populations. In addition, this position will help to maintain and improve the online presence of the Design Technology Department and its programs. Participation in departmental program review, student advisement, faculty organizations and college governance is expected.
Master’s degree and two years of professional experience OR Bachelor’s and six years of professional experience OR the equivalent* OR possession of an appropriate valid California Community College Credential authorizing service in the specified subject area(s).
Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the socioeconomic, academic, cultural and ethnic diversity within the college student population including students with physical and/or learning disabilities as these factors relate to differences in learning styles.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of professional experience in graphic design and typography as well as two or more years of teaching experience in graphic design, or a field reasonably related to the discipline of the assignment; a thorough knowledge of industry standard design processes and tools for graphic design; proficiency with the Adobe Creative Cloud; an extensive and varied design portfolio. Knowledge of motion graphics design, product design, packaging design, service design, illustration and/or photography is desirable.
