Starting Salary Range: $68,768 to $105,559 per year, salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum initial salary step placement on the faculty salary schedule is step 9. An annual doctoral stipend of $4,591 is granted to eligible faculty.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY: This full-time, tenure track instructor will enjoy a 185-Day work schedule. Fifty percent (50%) of this position will focus on Umoja, and the other fifty percent (50%) will be general Counseling with a focus on Athletics. The position begins on Monday, August 19, 2024 pending Governing Board ratification. Classes may be in a traditional "in class" setting, online, or hybrid format scheduled over summer and/or winter months, and at various campus locations, including days, evenings, and/or weekends.

About the Department: The Cabrillo College Academic Counseling Department is part of the Academic Counseling, Career and Educational Support Services (ACCESS) Division, which is tagged with tenured and associate academic counseling faculty. The Academic Counseling team is dedicated to providing current information and comprehensive academic counseling services to a diverse student population. Academic counselors assist students in the identification of career and educational goals, educational planning and provide follow-up services to support students with their educational plans. Academic counselors are required to stay current with career/occupational program information and requirements as well as four-year university transfer requirements. Academic counseling is provided primarily in-person with some online and hybrid opportunities at various campus locations; days, evenings and/or weekends.

Examples of Duties

• Provide academic, career/vocational advisement and comprehensive educational plans for Career Technical Education (CTE) and transfer-bound students.
• Provide academic advisement to ensure CCCAA eligibility for student athletes.
• Provide academic advisement for students in the Umoja program and support transfer pathways to historically black colleges and universities.
• Participate in department meetings and work groups that develop, evaluate and deliver services that support student success. Additional professional assignments include attendance at faculty/college meetings, curriculum and program development, and related duties as required or assigned.
• Teach assigned classes, which may include evening or off-campus assignments
• Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress
• Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours
• Participate in participatory governance committees, processes, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways.
• Cooperate with and participate as may be required in District investigations and/or student grievance matters of alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
• Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
• Complete required District trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited organization and licensure qualifications:

• Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty, and staff AND
• Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling OR
• Bachelor's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling AND a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) OR
• A lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in one of the above required fields OR
• The *equivalent

Required Professional Expertise:

• Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional field, curriculum development, review and assessment of student learning outcomes
• Knowledge and understanding of programs such as Guided Pathways, that address commitment to equity-minded and culturally responsive teaching strategies enhancing student success
• Work cooperatively and demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students, administrators, faculty, and staff
• Effective oral and written communication skills and effective use of technology
• Evidence of professional activities and service beyond primary teaching assignments

Required Discipline Specific Requirements/Licensure:

• Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California driver's license and safe driving record during the course of employment.

• Experience with CCCAA eligibility regulations and requirements for student athletes
• Experience or understanding of the principals and cultural practices of the Umoja program
• Experience developing education plans for CTE and transfer students seeking admission to University of California (UC), California State University (CSU) and private universities.
