Job Posting Title: College Relations Assistant
Job Description Summary: The College Relations Assistant plays a key role in supporting the coordination of marketing and community outreach events for Austin Community College District (ACC). This dynamic position combines event planning support with active community engagement and outreach efforts to foster a positive, fun, and inclusive atmosphere for attendees.
The assistant will work closely with the College Relations & Marketing team to help coordinate and execute a variety of events and outreach initiatives, including mascot appearances in support of the College's positive brand awareness, strategic marketing goals, and educational mission to reach and engage with culturally diverse communities.
Job Description:
Description of Duties
- Supports outreach strategies on multiple channels, including digital and print formats, to promote events and enhance community awareness of College programs, initiatives, and events at the direction of the Associate Director of College Relations.
- Assists in the planning and execution of office-sponsored events, initiatives, and mascot appearances, including collecting guest lists, developing engaging activities, preparing event materials, and compiling data for reports.
- Provides event support, including setup, activity management, and breakdown.
- Supports the researching and identifying of College and community events that can enhance the College's engagement internally and externally.
- Helps maintain mascot materials including costumes, props, and merch or swag.
- Helps develop digital content that could elevate the College's brand.
- Assists departmental inventory requests, including fulfillment and distribution.
Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of the role and purposes of a college mascot.
- Extensive knowledge of the use of social media for promotion and branding, including Canva, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
- Use a variety of Google products such as Sheets, Docs, and Drive
Skills
- Administrative skills to maintain schedules, timelines, and deadlines.
- Punctual and willing to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends, and/or work at multiple locations.
- Ability to work well with other departments, and members of the community in addition to youth.
- Ability to troubleshoot situations quickly and act accordingly.
- Superior customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in event support or logistics is a plus.
Required Education
- High school diploma or GED and some college coursework.
Preferred Education
- Associate degree or higher or progress toward completion.
Special Requirements
- Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation needed for local Austin area travel.
Other Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a mascot, preferably at a high school, collegiate or professional level.
- Ability to wear mascot costume and stand, walk, and perform for extended periods.
Physical Requirements
- Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
- Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
- Will occasionally be required to use the ACC van to provide safe transportation of the student mascot team to and from events and ensure timely arrival and departure.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions.
Safety
- Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
