Position Title: Instructional Technologist A, Art and Design Full-Time Faculty

General Description

The Instructional Technologist A facilitates daily operations of the Art Department and assists the faculty in providing students a 21st century foundation art curriculum. The Instructional Technologist A manages all aspects of the high-volume ceramics studio classroom. They also provide support to faculty and students in Painting, Drawing, 2D and 3D Design, and Computer Graphics classes.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Managing general maintenance of art studio classrooms and acting as liaison with facilities management as needed.
  • Preparing materials for ceramics studio daily: making clay; formulating, testing, and mixing up glazes, keeping the studio glaze and slip buckets filled; loading, firing, and unloading kilns.
  • Maintaining kilns and performing minor repair work on electric kilns.
  • Maintaining equipment including slab roller, extruder, electric wheels, clay mixers, spray booth and compressor.
  • Monitoring, ordering and maintaining appropriate inventory of departmental supplies.
  • Maintaining and monitoring use of tools in design classes to include woodworking tools, sewing machines, and digital fabrication tools.
  • Supervising work study students in ceramics, 2D and 3D areas.
  • Managing and inventorying the sign-out and return of departmental laptops.
  • Overseeing semester assignment, lock changes and clean out of art student lockers.
  • Organizing end of semester photography of student work for departmental archive.
  • Coordinating and managing signups for departmental bus trips.
  • Assisting install and labels for department exhibitions, including April is Art, the annual student exhibition.
  • Attending and taking minutes for monthly department meetings.
  • Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

  • Respect for Diversity: Establish an inclusive environment in the classroom. Demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the College’s faculty, staff and students.
  • Assessment: Full participation in the assessment of student learning and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institution levels.
  • Student Success: Strive for excellence in teaching, applying best practices in field of discipline, and modeling behaviors that encourage student success and retention. Utilize innovative teaching strategies and technologies for online learning and other technology tools to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population. Maintain office hours to meet with students outside of the classroom and respond to questions or concerns.
  • Leadership and Development: Commitment to professional learning and growth, student mentoring, and service to the profession. Remain current in the use of technology, developments within the field of discipline, and developments related to teaching and student success.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts degree required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a professional ceramics studio required.
  • A thorough understanding of clay and glaze materials required.
  • Experience with the firing and repair of electric kilns required.
  • Familiarity with woodworking tools, both hand and power equipment required.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to multitask required.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, the ability to work with a diverse population and the flexibility to evolve with the changing needs of the department required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to support digital based courses including manipulation of digital photographs and images preferred.
  • Previous experience in supervisory role preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching diverse student populations and addressing equity gaps.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching within a community college.
  • Bilingual or other language proficiency.
