Hours are Monday through Friday, 5:30am-2:00pm. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours/location based on the department's or District needs.

- Custodial methods, materials, chemicals, disinfectants, hand tools, and equipment.
- Health and safety regulations and laws concerning hazardous materials.
- Methods and chemicals used in pest control and soil preparation.
- Methods, materials, and equipment used in skilled gardening and grounds keeping work.
- Oral and written communications skills.
- Overall knowledge of air-conditioning, lighting, heating, and plumbing systems.
- Plant diseases and pests common to the area.
- Principles of effective supervision and training.
- Use and safety measures in the operation and handling of chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Understanding and care of plants.
- Water conservation techniques.
Skills and Abilities:
- Apply principles and methods of skilled gardening work.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Establish and meet schedules and time lines.
- Estimate and order materials and supplies needed.
- Implement a program of landscaping and grounds maintenance, including installation of new
- sprinkler systems.
- Maintain records and prepare reports.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repair on landscape equipment.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate the work of subordinate staff.
- Train, evaluate, and supervise personnel.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Work cooperatively with others.
Training and Experience:
- Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: graduation from high school and three
- years of gardening and grounds keeping experience, including one year in a supervisory position.
- License:
- Valid California driver's license.
- California Qualified Applicator's Certificate related to landscaping maintenance (Category B).
Foreign Degree: Applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute, INC.(ACEI).
