DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Reporting to the Dean of Student Development, the Psychological Services Director/Counselor will provide a full range of counseling and clinical services for De Anza's diverse student population; oversee and provide direction and training to graduate interns; consultation and outreach. Specific duties include intake, evaluation and brief therapy, educational and personal counseling; crisis intervention, case management; referral to campus and community resources; consultation with faculty, staff and administrators regarding mental health issues; administer psychological tests or other risk assessments that foster student wellness and campus safety. Develop outreach and prevention services. Develop and implement in-service workshops for faculty, staff and administrators. Assist with developing and maintaining the department's equity plans and social practices. Help the college meet its commitment to global, cultural, and social awareness though the praxis of equity, social justice, and multicultural education. Demonstrate the commitment to professional development and the practice of cultural humility. Encourage social justice, equity, and sensitivity in staffing, curriculum, programs, and service delivery.

Assist in development and implementation of annual funding proposals, program plans, budgets, and final reports for the programs. Conduct program review and Student Learning Outcome (SLO) development and evaluation process. Assist in development of goals and objectives, staffing recommendations, and capital outlay needs. Provide technical and functional direction to part-time faculty, staff and student employees. Oversee and monitor overall Psychological budgets and allocation of funds. Supervise monitoring of academic progress for student interns. Work with college staff to develop informational materials such as brochures, newsletters, and handbooks. Review legislation, codes, policies, and procedures related to assigned program. Provide information and interpretation of regulations and guidelines to students, faculty, administration and the community regarding programs and services. Provide leadership and training for staff to ensure that staff remains aware of and familiar with policies

and regulations governing the department and program services.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development an evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of a faculty member. Faculty also have the opportunity to serve on District and college committees and participate in extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Master's Degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family, and child counseling, OR equivalent. (NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the above degrees listed and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist(MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
  • Doctoral Degree in Neuropsychology, or Clinical Psychology.
  • Possession of California Mental Health License.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Professional clinical experience in a mental health setting.
  • Experience in providing direction and training to mental health interns.
  • Experience teaching or training adult populations.
  • Bi-lingual in languages that reflect the diverse student population.
  • Clinical experience in groups, individuals, and couples using brief treatment models.


Successful candidates will demonstrate the following:
  • Ability to administer psychological tests/and or assessment techniques.
  • Ability to demonstrate crisis management and consultation skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity and experience in the clinical work with the ethnically and culturally diverse groups, sexual orientation, and the disabled.
  • Ability to develop outreach and prevention services that promote psychological wellness.
  • Ability to present workshops and in-service training.
  • Ability to initiate innovative service delivery strategies.
  • Ability to demonstrate planning and organizational skills.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environment:
  • Endurance within a classroom setting, teaching student while standing, sitting, or walking throughout the classroom
  • Use aids such as chalkboards, posters, bulletin boards, overhead projector, television, recorder, computer, and technological equipment.
  • Retrieval, use, storage, and light lifting of teaching material, including books, equipment, assignments, etc.
  • Personally, model subject-matter knowledge in written and oral language.
  • Accurately assess students' learning disabilities, needs, and styles.
  • Seeing to read various materials.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person.
  • Develop and implement behavioral management process for monitoring, evaluating, and managing both appropriate and inappropriate student behaviors.
  • Address stressful events, created by hostile students by (a) maintaining emotional control, (b) listening without judgment or retaliation, (c) reasoning objectively and consistently, (d) keeping at the forefront the best interests of the student, and (e) maintaining professionalism and due process.

HIRING RANGE: $62,772.00 - $103,094.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Tenure-track, 11-months per year
