    The College contributes $12,159 toward annual premiums for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage. Lifetime retirement benefits provided for eligible retirees.

    The District participates in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) retirement programs, and MetLife Social Security Alternative Plan.

    [b]Major Duties and Responsibilities:[/b]

    1. Teach ACCS-34 Writing Strategies to students with disabilities (formerly DSPS-34)
    2. Teach ACCS-30 Academic Strategies for Students with Disabilities (formerly DSPS-30)
    3. Provide course instruction consistent with the course outline of record for each course taught.
    4. Provide workshops related to the development of writing skills for students with disabilities
    5. Meet with students individually to meet assess and address their writing needs
    6. Provide individual and group writing instruction to students during office hours and in the Accessible Technology Center (ATC) learning lab
    7. Serve as a liaison between the Access Department and other departments that emphasize writing in their academic requirements (e.g. English Department)
    8. Participate in curriculum development, student learning outcome development and outcomes assessments
    9. Participate in college efforts related to current and emerging instructional initiatives (e.g. Guided Pathways, First Year College Experience)
    10. Collaborate with other Access credit and non-credit professors and counselors to facilitate equal access and enhance success among students with disabilities
    11. Serve on College committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program, and participate in appropriate professional development activities
    12. Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities and College, division, and department policies
    13. Collaborate effectively with other faculty, staff, and administrators to plan, develop, and execute related programs

    15. Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods including online courses, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions
    16. Demonstrate responsiveness and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, and cultural diversity within the community college population including different abilities statuses (e.g. physical and/or learning)
    17. Maintain scheduled office and campus hours, and participate in department/division meetings and committees
    18. Late afternoon and/or evening assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

    [b]Required Qualifications:[/b]

    A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
    1. Possession of a Masters degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in the category of disability, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling; [b]AND[/b]
    2. Fifteen semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of disability, to include, but not be limited to: (A) Learning disabilities; (B) Developmental disabilities; Deaf and hearing impaired; (D) Physical disabilities; or (E) Adapted computer technology, [b]OR[/b]
    3. California Community College credential, Valid for Life (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed. Code 87355 (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential must be submitted with the application.)
    B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.
    Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

    [b]Preferred Qualifications:[/b]

    1. Experience in providing writing instruction to college students with disabilities and/or to high school students receiving special education and related services

    2. Working knowledge of assistive technology and its application to improving educational access and academic success for students with disabilities

    [b]License(s) and Other Requirements[/b]:

    The incumbent may periodically be required to get to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California drivers license.

    [b]Conditions of Employment:[/b]

    This is a full-time, tenure-track, 11-month contract position that begins in the 2019-20 academic year. Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education, full-time and/or part-time teaching, and related work experience, up to a maximum placement at step 9.

    Official offers of employment are made by Mt. San Antonio College Human Resources and are made contingent upon Board approval. It is also required that a final offer of employment will only be made after the candidate has successfully been live-scanned and clearance for employment is authorized by Human Resources. Costs for live-scan services shall be borne by the candidate.
