    Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable.


    The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.     San Diego Mesa College welcomes applicants for a full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Art, specializing in the areas of Printmaking & Drawing, and able to teach other courses across the 2D studio art disciplines.

    We are seeking a colleague with expertise in their discipline, as evidenced by academic achievement and professional activity in the field, including an active exhibition record.     The Fine Arts program at San Diego Mesa college offers a wide range of Studio Art and Art History courses in a recently remodeled, state-of-the-art building that includes a professional art gallery, a student gallery, and updated, technologically sophisticated studio facilities.

    Major Responsibilities


    Teach a full contract load of studio art courses. Manage classroom spaces and equipment. Participate in department administration and committee work as dictated by college & school requirements. Fulfill all contract obligations.


    Qualifications


    Master's in fine arts, art, or art history OR
    Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in humanities OR
    The equivalent

    (NOTE: "Master's in fine arts" as used here refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the "Master of Fine Arts" (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other nonplastic arts.)

    • An earned terminal M.F.A. degree in Studio Art with a concentration in 2D disciplines.

    • Evidence of teaching experience in Printmaking and Drawing, and the potential to teach other 2D classes, possibly including 2-D design, Book Arts, Digital Art or Digital Photography.

    • Evidence of a skilled contemporary art practice via an active, professional exhibition record.

    • Evidence of an understanding and application of technology in the Studio Art classroom.

    • Evidence of an understanding and application of innovative and up-to-date Studio Art Pedagogy.

    • Evidence of an ability to supervise and maintain 2D studio spaces and functions, including management of drawing studios, figure model hiring, and printmaking equipment.

    • Demonstrated cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
