    Job Description Summary:
    To provide lab and/or classroom support services to children, students, and faculty. Performs the duties of Assistant Teacher at the Children's Lab School.

    Job Description:

    Description of Duties and Tasks

    1) Observes, enhances, guides and supervises children's daily activities and interactions; provides daily basic care and teaches self-help skills.
    2) Conducts indoor and outdoor safety checks, removes any hazardous objects or materials; sanitizes all surfaces, toys, and equipment.
    3) Works collaboratively with teachers to plan and implement daily learning activities and projects; offers ideas for future learning experiences and makes adjustments to enhance learning.
    4) Collects and tracks data on children's developmental growth using assessment tools. Works with the teacher to interpret information relating to children's developmental progress.
    5) Communicates with parents to share and exchange information relating to the child. Fills out daily charts, posts notes or reminders, and answers parent's questions; participates in home visits.
    6) Assists teachers in modeling, overseeing and guiding beginning, intermediate, and advanced child development students doing field work to gain practical experience teaching young children.
    7) Assists teachers in providing oral and written feedback to child development students including mid-term and final evaluations for student practices.
    8) Work collaboratively with teachers to oversee child development student projects conducted in the classroom and serves as a coach and mentor for adult students in applying knowledge and building skills.
    9) Takes on the responsibilities of the teacher for the classroom in his/her absence.

    Knowledge

    * Principles and practices of child development and early childhood education.
    * Safety practices and procedures as they relate to a child care facility.
    * Principals and practices of child care program activities.
    * First aid and CPR.

    Skills

    * Maintaining an established work schedule, which may include evening shifts.
    * Effectively using interpersonal and communications skills.
    * Effectively using organizational and planning skills.
    * Providing early childhood care and education.
    * Assessing safety of situations.
    * Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.
    * Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

    Technology Skills

    * Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.

    Required Work Experience

    * Two years related work experience.

    Required Education

    * Associate degree in Child Development, Early Education, or a related degree with 30-36 hours of child development/ early childhood coursework.

    Special Requirements

    * Required to successfully complete state and FBI criminal background checks, completion of OSHA blood borne pathogen training, and health assessment and TB test prior to employment.

    Physical Requirements

    * Work is performed in a child development setting, both indoors and outdoors.
    * Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
    * Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
