    Pay Information


    Class 1, Step C - Class 6, Step C ($6,933.44 - $8,849.03) per month based on the 2024 AFT - College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Monthly Salary Schedule.

    Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable.

    The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 - Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made within the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.     Major Responsibilities



    • Teaching introductory level Humanities courses offered by the department, and/or available within the district's course catalog;

    • Demonstrate versatility in instructional methodology and technology and the ability to serve diverse student populations;

    • Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening, online and off-campus as needed;

    • Maintain currency in subject matter and developments in the field;

    • Participating in program development and expansion of Humanities course offerings, making use of Guided Pathways to facilitate student success within both academic and career-based goals;

    • Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;

    • Participating in curriculum development and program planning;

    • Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees;

    • Participating in appropriate professional development activities and workshops;

    • Communicate with students and staff in a professional manner;

    • Continuous effort to find and close equity gaps and engaging in equitable practices in the classroom and in the campus community; Qualifications Master's in humanities OR the equivalent. Desired Qualifications

    • Current knowledge of the Humanities discipline, and adjacent fields of study Philosophy and World Religions), as well as emerging trends, research, and pedagogy.

    • Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program, and degree level.

    • Competent in new pedagogies, such as accelerated learning, supplemental instruction, online, HyFlex, or hybrid teaching, and other pedagogies directed at improving student success and student equity.

    • Recent experience working with diverse student populations in the classroom, specifically underrepresented student populations and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.

    • Experience actively engaging in a college campus community.

    • Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students.

    • Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within coursework and the classroom.

    • Ability to operate effectively in an environment of change and maintain professionalism and collegiality.

    • Knowledge of and willingness to utilize Open Educational Resources to open access for students.

    SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT:
