    General Statement

    Under the direct supervision of the Surgical Technology Program Coordinator, the lab assistant will observe and provide feedback to students performing surgical procedures and techniques in a non-patient contact environment.

    Duties and Responsibilities



    • Ensures students are using proper techniques of disinfection, sterilization, and antisepsis.

    • Prepares demonstrations, organizing supplies/equipment.

    • Assist instructors with demonstrations and monitoring of student performance.

    • Notifies the Surgical Technology Program Coordinator of equipment repair, maintenance, and replacement needs.

    • Ensures surgical technology lab in compliance with college safety policies.

    • Provides feedback to students during lab demonstration of lab skills. Lab skills include positioning, scrubbing, gowning, gloving, establishment of a sterile field, and proper use utilization of instruments, supplies, and equipment.

    • Monitors students using laparoscopic simulation.

    • Maintains documentation of skills as required by program accreditor.




    Job Requirements:
    Minimum Qualifications



    • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency:

    • Be credentialed as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA);

    • Have a minimum total of two years of experience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology (or a combination of both) within the past five years;

    • Be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)



    Preferred Qualifications



    • Previous experience working in an educational setting as a lab assistant
