    General Statement

    Support faculty and assist students in HVAC laboratory and classroom; set up lab equipment prior to class/breakdown equipment after class; maintain inventory of lab equipment; order parts and equipment from vendors; perform related work as required. This position supports the Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) lab, currently located at Worcester Technical High School.

    Reports to Dean for School of Business, Computing & Applied Technologies.

    Duties and Responsibilities



    • Support faculty and assist students in safe and proper utilization of HVAC lab equipment.

    • Set up required lab equipment prior to class/break down equipment after class.

    • Maintain organized lab work areas and storage areas.

    • Maintain inventory of QCC HVAC equipment and supplies.

    • Work with faculty member(s) to troubleshoot lab equipment and construct, install, repair and/or maintain lab equipment as needed.

    • After each semester and before the next semester begins, ensure that all lab equipment is in working order and ready for the next group of students. Make repairs as needed.

    • Monitor student use of lab equipment during class. Assure all equipment is used for its intended purposes. Assure all safety precautions are followed. Assure that students maintain the cleanliness of the lab as outlined in the lab rules.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements:
    Minimum Qualifications



    • Applicants must have (A) demonstrated mechanical skills, knowledge and abilities, preferably in HVAC or a related area. (B) experience in providing excellent customer service; or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.




    Substitutions:



    1. A postsecondary certificate from a recognized school above the high school level in HVAC, Energy Systems, electronics or electrical engineering may be substituted for the required experience.

    2. An Associate's Degree in HVAC, Energy Systems, electronics or electronics technology may be substituted for the required experience.

    3. A Bachelor's Degree with a major in HVAC, Energy Systems, electronics or electrical engineering may be substituted for the required experience.




    Preferred Qualifications



    • Postsecondary certificate or degree in HVAC, Energy Systems or related field.

    • Interest in and demonstrated ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities in small groups and one-on-one, in order to help them succeed in technical courses.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
