    Job Description

    Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada is seeking an exceptional educator as applicant for an Emergency Medical Services (EMS)/ Paramedic Instructor to serve in a fast paced and diverse educational environment. TMCC EMS Academy is one of the premiere EMS educational institutions in the region. Our team of faculty and staff are solid and collaborative, with one goal in mind: Produce the absolute best EMS providers who embody our 3 core commitments Character, Compassion, and Competence. The major areas of responsibility are to teach and develop theory instruction, arrange for appropriate learning experiences in the clinical and practice lab settings, grade and evaluate students in theory and the clinical and field setting, and coordinate theory and clinical instruction with other faculty for appropriate learning experiences. When students are in the clinical/field settings faculty will act as a liaison between the students and clinical/internships sites. Liaison work may require travel to hospitals and field sites.

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Associates degree in any science, fire, EMS, or appropriate field from an accredited institution.

    2. Current State of Nevada Paramedic certification/license or ability to obtain within 1 month of hire date.

    3. Two years of experience in a full-time paid paramedic position in emergency services.

    4. Must have the instructor endorsement on Nevada certification or can obtain with certification in one month of hire date.

    5. Two years of experience teaching preferably in an emergency service.

    6. Be able to relocate to the region, if necessary.

    Preferred Qualifications

    1. Bachelor's or Master's Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution preferred.

    2. Eight years' experience in a full-time paid paramedic position in emergency services.

    3. Three years' experience teaching in an emergency services academy setting.

    4. NAEMSE Instructor I or certified firefighter Instructor II.

    Responsibilities

    Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds. Faculty will report to the Associate Dean of Public Safety Programs and will interface with EMS coordinator/Paramedic Program Director as well.

    1. Instruct students in EMS using appropriate course outcomes developed by college-wide subject area faculty; assess student performance in these courses

    2. Assist with curriculum review and revision, based upon current national standards and develop new course materials and innovative instructional concepts and techniques to facilitate student learning. In an academy style program. Uniforms and timeliness are expected.

    3. Apply teaching techniques effective in a laboratory/clinical setting utilizing state-of-the-art delivery systems.

    4. Prepare lesson plans, syllabi and course information sheets, create appropriate teaching aids, and arrange provision of instructional materials and activities for student usage in classes and as homework assignments.

    5. Use computer software programs to input, retrieve and generate information necessary to perform one's job.

    6. Attend and participate in non-classroom activities such as staff development, department and division meetings, college or NSHE committees and community engagement activities.

    7. Participate in student advisement, recruitment and retention efforts, semester kick-offs, and commencement as required by NFA contract.

    8. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in field knowledge and pedagogies that expand breadth and depth of understanding in the discipline.

    9. Provide professional assistance to staff and students. Assist the department in mentoring part-time faculty.

    10. Teach 30 (15/15) credit or contact hours during the academic year, August through May, in various modalities as assigned, including in-person, hybrid, online, live-virtual (hy-flex), and at high-school sites (Jump-Start dual credit), per the needs of the program.

    11. Teach days, evenings, and/or weekend classes at one (1) or more college locations.

    12. Maintain 5 office hours per week in a shared or private office on campus.

    13. Communicate and interact in a professional and collegial manner with faculty, students, staff, and administration, in the best interests of the college and the people it serves.

    14. Complete training outlined in TMCC's Faculty Standards of Online Instruction, when and as needed.

    15. Travel occasionally to community and workforce sites, conferences, events, and so on, per the needs of the program.

    16. Maintain professional certifications required by the State of Nevada EMS Office.

    17. Be able to become an instructor and teach American Heart Association and NAEMT courses as they become available.

    18. Uphold the Mission, Vision, and Values of TMCC and perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with them.

    19. Demonstrate awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues. Maintain sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, as well as disabilities, of students, faculty, and staff.

    20. Adhere to the published codes of NSHE as detailed in the Board of Regents Handbook.

    21. Comply with Public Safety Department policies and procedures.

    22. Assist with equipment usage and maintenance for the training program.

    23. Ensure safety precautions and guidelines are followed properly

    24. Learn and adhere to the Code of Ethical Standards of the State of Nevada (Nevada Revised Statutes 281A.400-281A.480).

    25. Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Public Safety Programs.

    26. Be able to work 35 hours a week, including teaching and office hours.

    Salary and Benefits Information:

    Salary: This position is a 9-month role, totaling 172 working days per year. The salaries listed below are based on this schedule, paid over 12 months. Initial salary placement will be dependent on education level and years of experience:

    Associate's: $48,961 - $58,754

    Bachelor's: $57,823 - $69,388

    Master's: $60,634- $72,761

    Master's + 30: $63,444 - $76,133

    Ph.D: $68,739 - $82,487
