The West Valley-Mission Community College District (WVMCCD ) seeks individuals who will help create an educational community where students from various backgrounds can pursue their ambitions while feeling supported and connected.
WVMCCD is accepting applications for its Fall 2025 Faculty Development Internship Program (FDIP ).
The program delivers practical teaching experience and professional development while providing mentorship to aspiring faculty members who will learn to teach effectively in diverse California Community College settings. The program provides tracks for both instructional faculty and non-instructional faculty options, including academic counseling and library services.Program Overview
Duration: One semester (Fall 2025)
Stipend: $2,000 for the semester
Time Commitment: Participants must complete 60 hours of program activities, including classroom instruction and mentor meetings.
Training & Workshops: The program requires interns to attend eight professional development in-person training sessions, which must be completed at either West Valley College or Mission College on the following dates:

Tuesday, September 2, 2:30 PM- 4:00 PM
Tuesday, September 16, 2:30 PM- 4:00 PM
Tuesday, October 7, 2:30 PM- 4:00 PM
Tuesday, October 21, 2:30 PM- 4:00 PM
Tuesday, November 4, 2:30 PM- 4:00 PM
Week of November 17, Time TBD by your schedule, via ZOOM
Tuesday, December 2, 2:30 PM-4:00 PM
Interns will gain experience by observing experienced faculty members while they teach and participate in mentorship discussions and specialized workshops covering:
Equity-driven teaching and student engagement strategies.
Curriculum design, assessment, and instructional best practices.
Ways to recognize hidden prejudices as well as strategies to create educational spaces that welcome all students.
Effective classroom communication and pedagogy.
Mock interview preparation for future faculty roles.
Assignment:
The Faculty Development Internship Program is accepting applications for all disciplines of instructional and non-instructional faculty for Fall 2025. Selected interns will be placed at one of the two colleges:
Mission College
West Valley College
Salary and Benefits:
Interns participating in the Faculty Development Internship Program will receive a $2,000 stipend for the Fall 2025 semester.
Minimum Qualifications:
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA To apply for the Faculty Development Internship Program, you must fulfill these required qualifications:
Applicants must fulfill the minimum qualifications established by the Academic Senate of California Community Colleges in their chosen field.
Show awareness of and comprehension of the varied academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds found in community college settings.
Have no prior higher education experience.
Applicants to this program may include:
A graduate student finishing their Masters degree at an accredited college or university.
Applicant has earned a Masters degree in a field that relates to community college instruction.
Applicant with a Bachelors degree who has completed two years of full-time work in a vocational or technical profession.
Applicant with an Associates degree and possesses a minimum of six years full-time work experience in vocational or technical fields.
Note: Those who fail to satisfy educational specifications have the option to seek an equivalency review.

Intern Responsibilities During the internship program interns will participate in a structured learning process that includes:
Orientation & Onboarding into the WVMCCD faculty community.
Observe classroom dynamics and work alongside experienced faculty members in teaching situations.
Participate in mentor meetings, which provide continuous professional guidance and development opportunities.
Interns will participate in FDIP Workshops that cover topics such as teaching methods, increasing student participation and navigating the job application process.
Engagement in College Governance & Community Networking.
End-of-semester showcase to present key learning outcomes.
Mock Interviews.
Interns will gain:
A comprehensive understanding of community college settings and their various student populations.
A teaching portfolio consists of a sample syllabus, accompanying lesson plans, grading rubrics, and assessments.
A resume/CV, together with the teaching statement prepared explicitly for community college faculty positions.
Hands-on experience and mentorship from experienced faculty.
Enhanced readiness for future faculty hiring processes.

Selected interns will be placed at either West Valley College or Mission College and matched with faculty mentors in their discipline. Special consideration is given to applicants who are preparing to teach in high-demand disciplines within the California Community College system.
