    Job Description Summary:
    The Dean of Nursing is responsible for establishing and maintaining a collaborative teaching, learning, and working environment that supports students, faculty, and staff, within available resources on a collegewide basis. This role provides strategic leadership for nursing programs, ensures effective administration, fosters compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards, and promotes instructional excellence that drives student success outcomes. The Dean of Nursing provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for all nursing programs, ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards, advancing instructional excellence, and fostering student success. The Dean promotes a collaborative teaching, learning, and working environment that supports students, faculty, and staff, and strengthens partnerships with healthcare providers and community stakeholders across the College district.

    Job Description:

    Description of Duties and Tasks



    • Provides leadership in developing, implementing, and maintaining curriculum and programs that respond to community needs; prepares students for success; and meets the external requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), and applicable specialized accrediting organizations.

    • Develops competency-based education programs focused on specific skills and competencies required by employers. Engages in continuous improvement using feedback from students, employers, and other stakeholders.

    • Integrates work-based learning opportunities, including internships, co-ops, apprenticeships, and project-based learning.

    • Develops and implements programs aligned with non-credit and credit pathways for the Central Texas region.

    • Provides leadership and advocacy in the planning, implementing, assessing, and ongoing improvement of all curricula, courses, and programs within assigned academic areas.

    • Ensures that programs comply with regulatory requirements and/or accreditation standards where appropriate.

    • Convenes advisory committees, works with Grants Development Office, and maintains community partnerships in support of programmatic goals.

    • Collaborates with regional healthcare systems, workforce boards, and community partners to strengthen pipelines into the nursing profession and address workforce shortages in Texas.




    Student/Faculty Issues



    • Provides leadership in addressing and resolving student complaints, grade appeals, academic dishonesty appeals, faculty complaints and grievances, employee complaints against supervisors, staff, or faculty issues, where appropriate.

    • Ensures that all faculty within assigned academic areas are appropriately qualified and stay current with industry advancements.

    • Supports ongoing professional development, mentoring, and succession planning for nursing faculty and instructional leaders.

    • Encourages inclusive and diverse enrollment and completion in nursing pathways.




    Management and Institutional Participation



    • Ensures consistent and appropriate application of administrative rules within assigned academic areas, including overseeing faculty evaluation processes, hiring of faculty and staff, course schedule development, planning and budgeting, safety, facilities, equipment and software needs, selection, supervision, and evaluation of department chairs and assistant deans, and preparation of reports as required. Supervises and evaluates support staff.

    • Ensures compliance with requirements of the Texas Board of Nursing (BON), the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and/or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), as applicable.

    • Initiates and manages special projects and assignments.

    • Participates in shared governance through service on collegewide councils and committees.

    • Area(s) of Study: Provides leadership and advocacy for the assigned area(s) of study, including communication, student and faculty engagement, joint efforts of instruction and student services to support student success, and community-building with external partners where appropriate.

    • Business and Industry: Develops and maintains positive relationships with external businesses and appropriate community organizations.




    Skills Development Programs



    • Implements technical training programs tailored to industry-specific needs.

    • Enhances soft skills training, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership.




    Technology Integration



    • Utilizes advanced learning technologies such as virtual labs, simulations, and online learning platforms where applicable.

    • Leverages data analytics to track student progress, measure program effectiveness, and identify workforce demand trends




    Infrastructure and Resources



    • Ensures state-of-the-art facilities with modern classrooms, labs, and equipment that reflect current industry standards.

    • Provides access to necessary resources, including libraries, technology, and support services




    Knowledge



    • Demonstrated expertise in vocational nursing (LVN), associate degree (ADN/RN), and baccalaureate (RN-to-BSN) pathways.

    • Demonstrated expertise in project planning, development, and implementation.

    • Demonstrated ability to present information and summary reports internally and to the public.

    • Understanding of the community college philosophy and mission.

    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and comply with the demands and requirements of senior-level management in higher education.

    • Demonstrated expertise in effective and ethical leadership, including an understanding of Servant-Leadership or collaborative leadership and accountabilityDemonstrated expertise in managing external funding sources and grant processes to support program innovation, faculty development, and student success.

    Required Work Experience

    Five (5) years of related work experience, including three (3) years of supervisory/management experience.

    Required Education



    • Master's degree in nursing.

    • Doctoral degree (in nursing or a related field).

    • Possess and maintain an unencumbered current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas.

    • Experience cannot be substituted for the required, applicable educational level.



    Physical Requirements



    • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.

    • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.

    • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.




    Safety



    • Supervise the safe operation of the unit.

    • Facilitate safety inspections.

    • Take reasonable and prudent actions to eliminate identified hazards.

    • Ensure employees receive appropriate safety training and foster a workplace safety culture.
