    Lincoln Land Community College is seeking a full-time, 9-month English Instructor to join our dedicated faculty starting Fall 2026. This position will teach introductory writing courses (Composition I, Composition II, and the English Corequisite). Courses are offered on the LLCC main campus in Springfield IL, the LLCC Medical District location in downtown Springfield IL, and Outreach Centers in Jacksonville, IL, Taylorville, IL and Litchfield, IL. Courses are also offered on-line. The instructor is expected to teach face-to-face offerings; online teaching options will not be provided.

    Duties will include teaching 15 contact hours per semester of assigned classes; preparing lessons and course syllabi; evaluating and assisting students; keeping accurate records of student performance, including following grading procedures; providing students with timely feedback; maintaining office hours; participating in departmental/institutional operations and program review; creating a learning environment that fosters student success; developing, integrating, evaluating and reviewing student learning outcomes in support of the College's ongoing accreditation; and contributing to a collegial and collaborative work environment.

    The Department of Humanities, Arts, Communication and English has 27 full-time faculty members and offers classes in English composition, literature, creative writing, art, music, integrated media design, humanities, journalism, philosophy, and world languages.

    Evening hours may be required and opportunities exist for overload. The College provides an excellent fringe benefit package and is supportive of faculty development.

    The Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) district comprises all or part of 15 counties in central/central southern Illinois and covers 4,115 square miles making it the largest geographic community college district in the State of Illinois. The college's main campus is located in Springfield, Illinois. LLCC serves approximately 17,000 individuals annually through credit and non-credit courses at its Springfield campus, as well as at education service area sites throughout the district and online.

    Faculty salaries are determined by education level and experience and will be between $51,901 – $93,337. Below are the salary ranges for each level of education. Additional compensation beyond base salary can be earned through extra teaching assignments during the academic year and in the summer, as well as coordinator assignments.
    Masters: $51,901 – $76,788
    Masters +15 additional graduate credit hours: $54,499 – $80,627
    Masters +30 additional graduate credit hours: $57,224 – $84,660
    Masters +45 additional graduate credit hours: $60,084 – $88,893
    Doctorate: $63,085 – $93,337

    Required Qualifications

    Masters degree in English with at least 15 credit hours of graduate coursework in rhetoric/composition studies.
    Experience teaching introductory composition courses.

    Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience with teaching at a community college.
    Experience teaching neurodiverse students, English language learners, and/or concurrently-enrolled students.
    Experience teaching English Corequisite or developing writers.
    Experience with teaching using Canvas and/or other online learning management systems.
    Experience with other departmental activities such as assessment, program review, curriculum development, and committee service.

    Physical Requirements

    Position Salary: Starting salary is determined by education level and experience and will be between $51,901 – $93,337.

    Special Instructions to Applicants
