    Job Title: MSHA/Industrial Health and Safety Instructor
    FLSA Status: Exempt
    Grade: $50,000-$70,000 yearly salary
    Department: Career and Technical Education
    Reports to: Director, Industry Safety Training


    Job Summary

    The MSHA/Industrial Health and Safety Instructor is primarily responsible to provide mandatory Health and Safety training to the mining and related industry throughout the State of Wyoming. Responsibilities will include research, design, coordination, implementation, and teaching of new and/or revised programs of instruction for the Program. The instructor will develop a liaison with the Wyoming mining industry, MSHA, NIOSH, State Mine Inspector, and the Grant Advisory Board on behalf of the Manager/Trainer for the purpose of maintaining quality safety and health programs within MSHA and WY MSHA State Grant Standards and guidelines.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities



    • Assist the MSHA Manager/Trainer or designee in the design and teaching of mandatory or other courses, including but not limited to, New Miner, Annual Refresher, or Experienced Miner courses required to comply with MSHA rules.

    • Research and design topics relating to mandatory mine health and safety training.

    • Work closely with the Manager/Trainer or designee to assure that program and emphasis are in accord with prevailing standards of training and operation.

    • Provide State-wide liaison as required with the mining and related industry to assist the Manager/Trainer or designee to assure that program and emphasis are in accord with prevailing standards of training and operation.

    • Assist in maintaining a system of records that meets the needs of the WY MSHA State Grant, Gillette College, Wyoming State Mine Inspector, and MSHA.

    • Responsible to maintain assigned equipment and assisting the Manager/Trainer or designee to maintain Program equipment inventories.

    • Assist Manager/Trainee or designee to maintain safe working conditions and practices at the campus as well as other training sites as necessary.

    • Assist Manager or designee with the collection, analysis, and reporting of field data for classes taught, as necessary, to comply with state and federal regulations and client requirements and to submit appropriate reports of sampling results to clients.

    • Assist clients in the interpretation of data and reports as necessary.

    • Other duties as assigned.



    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required by the Position



    • Must be knowledgeable of 30 CFR (Mineral Resources) as it relates to mine health and safety training and regulatory compliance for surface coal, metal, and nonmetal mining operations (both Part 48 and Part 46 operations).

    • Required to have a working knowledge of Wyoming mining regulations and safe mine work practices.

    • Must be knowledgeable of current surface mining practices generally in use throughout the mining and mining construction industries.

    • Knowledge of 30 CFR as it relates to health and safety training and regulatory compliance for surface/underground coal, metal, and nonmetal mining operations is preferred.

    • Able to operate standard office and classroom equipment.

    • Able to perform routine equipment maintenance.

    • Possess excellent written and communication skills.

    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.



    Working Conditions/Physical Requirements



    • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds.

    • Occasional travel with evenings or weekends as scheduled

    • Work mostly consists of classroom and office setting



    Minimum Qualifications



    • MSHA IS Certification, knowledge of significant coal, meta/nonmetal safety and health training requirements for new and experienced trainees.

    • First Aid/CPR Instructor Certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

    • Post-secondary degree and/or previous classroom experience preferred.

    • Must have a valid drivers license.

    • Two years of experience in a surface and/or underground mining facility.

    • MSHA Instructor Certifications preferred.



    Preference will be given to the candidate who demonstrated the ability to interact with diverse audiences and who is able to incorporate innovative, inclusive pedagogies and technology into their teaching.
