Summary:
The Casper College Theatre and Dance Program is seeking a well-qualified technical director to provide support for its annual productions. Casper College offers Associate of Arts degrees in Dance Performance, Musical Theatre Performance, Theatre Performance, and Technical Theatre.

The​ ​Technical Director​ ​works closely with students and faculty to​ ​provide​ ​technical​ ​support​ ​for​ ​all​​ ​productions​ ​in​ ​the​ ​theatre​ ​and​ ​dance program. ​ ​The Technical​ ​Director​ ​may​ ​also design​ ​one​ ​production​ ​per​ ​year, ​​depending​ ​upon​​ expertise​ ​and departmental​ ​need. This is a full-time, ten (10) month position.

Responsibilities:
As an essential part of the artistic team, the technical director ​coordinates​ ​and​ ​participates​ ​in​ ​the​ ​construction​ ​of​ ​sets and props, hanging and focusing​ of ​​lighting instruments; collaborates with the audio engineer on sound for all productions;​ mentors and supervises students; ​exhibits​ ​solid​ ​carpentry,​ theatrical​ ​engineering ​and​ ​rigging​ ​skills;​ ​is fluent​ ​in​ current​ ​drafting​ ​software;​ ​maintains departmental​ ​labor​ ​and​ ​material​ ​resources;​ ​has​ ​excellent pre-and post-production​ ​organizational​ ​skills;​ ​and has​ ​the​ ​ability​ ​to​ ​craft​ ​a​ ​thorough​ ​and​ ​accurate​ ​production plan.​ ​​​The​ ​technical​ ​director​ ​is​​ ​responsible​ ​for​ ​applicable​ ​maintenance​ ​of​ ​facilities​ ​and equipment and communicates well with Casper College Facilities personnel;​ collaborates with designer(s) to work within allocated ​budgets​ ​to​ ​purchase​ ​production equipment​ ​and​ ​supplies;​ ​and​ ​maintain​s ​compliance with​ ​safe​ ​practices​,​ ​workplace regulations, and college policies.

Essential​ ​Functions:
Coordinate and participate in the development and construction ​of​ ​all​ ​theatre​ ​and​ ​dance​ ​productions
Collaborate​ ​with​ ​designer(s)​ ​to​ ​provide​ ​working​ ​drawings​ ​for​ ​scenic designs​
Collaborate with designer(s) to establish production budget priorities
Acquire​ ​all​ ​material​ ​needed​ ​for​ ​productions
Schedule​ ​and​ ​execute​ ​the construction​ ​of​ ​production​ ​elements
Utilizing best practices in safety, supervise, mentor,​ ​and​ ​instruct​ ​work-study​ ​and​ ​lab​ ​students
Supervise​ ​mounting​ ​of​ ​technical​ ​elements​ ​of​ ​productions
Assist in production tech rehearsals and strikes
Maintain​ ​shops, ​​equipment, ​​and​ ​storage​ ​areas
Attend​ ​department​ ​meetings​ ​and​ ​production​ ​meetings
Work within all​ ​applicable institutional​ policies and​ ​responsibilities
Assume other​ ​duties​ ​as​ ​directed​ ​by​ ​Theatre​ ​Department​ ​Chair​ ​and/or​ ​Arts​ ​and​ ​Humanities​ ​Dean

Minimum​ ​Qualifications:
Bachelor’s​ ​degree​ ​in​ ​Technical​ ​Theater​
Ability​ ​to​ ​collaborate​ ​effectively​ ​with​ ​artistic​ ​colleagues
Ability​ ​to​ ​use current drafting​ ​software
Knowledge​ ​of​ ​current​ ​lighting​ ​equipment, ​ ​including​ ​mounting, maintenance, ​ ​and​ ​repair
Demonstrated​ ​skills​ ​in​ ​theatrical​ ​carpentry, ​rigging,​ ​painting,​ ​audio,​ ​lighting, and props
Effective​ ​verbal, ​written, ​and​ ​interpersonal​ ​skills
Demonstrate​ ​a​ ​passion​ ​for​ ​theatre​ ​and​ ​dance​
Desired Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Technical Theatre
Experience in scenic and/or lighting design
Facilities and Accreditation:
Krampert​ ​Theatre​ ​consists​ ​of​ ​a​ ​thrust​ ​main​stage​ ​(seating​ ​381), ​a​ ​black​ ​box​ ​theatre​ ​(150), ​and​ ​a​ ​dance​ ​theatre​ ​(​100). ​ ​​ ​​​The​ ​institution​ ​is accredited by the National​ ​Association​ ​of​ ​Schools​ ​of​ ​Dance​ ​(NASD) and the ​National Association of Schools​ ​of​ ​Theatre​ ​(NAST).

Work​ ​Environment:
While​ ​performing​ ​the​ ​duties​ ​of​ ​this​ ​job,​ ​the​ ​employee​ ​is​ ​regularly​ ​exposed​ ​to​ ​mechanical​ ​parts, power-tools,​ ​fumes,​ ​and​ ​airborne​ ​particles.​ ​​​The​ ​employee​ ​occasionally​ ​works​ ​at​ ​heights​ ​and works​ ​with​ ​and​ ​around​ ​machinery​ ​with​ ​moving​ ​parts.​ ​The​ ​majority​ ​of​ ​the​ ​time​ ​will​ ​be​ ​spent indoors​ ​in​ ​a​ ​climate​ ​controlled​ ​environment,​ ​but​ ​occasionally​ ​various​ ​weather​ ​conditions​ ​will​ ​be encountered​ ​while​ ​traveling​ ​between​ ​buildings​,​ ​working​ ​near/on​ ​the​ ​dock, or acquiring materials off-campus.​ ​The​ ​noise​ ​level​ ​in the​ ​work​ ​environment​ ​is​ ​typically​ ​at​ ​a​ ​normal​ ​level,​ ​but​ ​occasionally​ ​moderate​ ​to​ ​high​ ​levels​ ​of noise​ ​will​ ​be​ ​encountered​ ​during​ ​certain​ ​activities​ ​(e.g., ​using​ ​the​ ​shop​ ​vac,​ ​power-tools,​ ​etc.).​ ​Stage​ ​work​ ​may​ ​require​ ​accessing​ ​and​ ​working​ ​in​ ​small​ ​spaces,​ ​above​ ​the​ ​stage​ ​at height,​ ​and​ ​behind/below​ ​the​ ​stage​ ​in​ ​smaller​ ​areas.​ ​Work​ ​is​ ​usually​ ​performed​ ​during​ ​the normal​ ​workday,​ ​however,​ ​occasional​ ​early​ ​morning,​ ​late​ ​evening​ ​and​ ​weekend​ ​work​ ​may​ ​be required.

Physical​ ​Demands:
While​ ​performing​ ​the​ ​duties​ ​of​ ​the​ ​job,​ ​the​ ​employee​ ​must​ ​be​ ​able​ ​to​ ​stand​ ​for​ ​long​ ​periods​ ​of time,​ ​speak,​ ​hear,​ ​use​ ​hands​ ​and​ ​fingers​ ​to​ ​handle​ ​materials​ ​and​ ​use​ ​computer,​ ​feel,​ ​and​ ​reach with​ ​hands​ ​and​ ​arms,​ ​climb​ ​or​ ​balance,​ ​stoop,​ ​kneel,​ ​crouch​ ​or​ ​crawl.​ ​Occasional​ ​lifting​ ​of​ ​up​ ​to 50​ ​pounds​ ​may​ ​be​ ​required.​ ​Work​ ​includes​ ​use​ ​of​ ​hands​ ​to​ ​manipulate​ ​and​ ​use​ ​tools​ ​and equipment​ ​related​ ​to​ ​theatre​ ​production.
