Job Summary

Under the supervision of the division director, program director, associate dean, and/or Dean, Instructional Affairs, the Instructor teaches students according to established policies and procedures to provide competent and effective classroom and laboratory instruction at varied times and places based on student demand.  The position will require coordination with the theatre program and the instruction of general music classes.  Responsibilities will also include recruitment, mentorship of music major transfer students, and community outreach performances.

SALARY: Based on education and experience commensurate with Salary Schedule D1 IA for 9 months (range: $39,600 - $60,415).  Higher education could earn placement on a higher salary schedule.
 
ANTICIPATED START DATE:  August 13, 2018
 
This position will be based initially on the Wallace Campus in Dothan.

More than one position in the same job classification may be filled from the applicants for this position should another vacancy occur during the search process. 

Minimum Qualifications/Screening Process

  1. Master's degree with major in Music from a regionally accredited institution OR Master's degree plus 18 graduate semester hours in Music from a regionally accredited institution is required.
  2. Demonstrated ability to coach vocal groups using repertoire of both traditional and modern à cappella ensembles, manage and direct an auditioned performance group to include experience with incorporating choreography, costumes, and staging for performances on and off campus, and throughout the region is preferred.
  3. Strong leadership skills including organizing concerts both on and off campus, collaborating with theatre department, and instrumental program for musicals and concerts is preferred.  Developing program curriculum with colleagues, and maintenance of standardized records such as Student Learning Outcomes is also preferred
  4. Teaching experience in the discipline at the postsecondary level is preferred.
  5. Experience with applied vocal pedagogy, and preparing vocalists for music major transfer to four-year schools is preferred.
  6. Experience incorporating multi-media instructional techniques into curricula, including instructional technology for web-based teaching and course management utilizing the Blackboard platform is preferred.
  7. Experience inspiring and facilitating learning with diverse student populations is preferred.
ADVISORY COMMITTEE: The President will appoint an Advisory and Interview Committee to include representatives of the College faculty and staff. This committee will employ appropriate procedures, including the review of application packets, interview, and demonstration of competency, to determine which applicants are to be recommended to the President for further consideration. From all the applications received, an advisory committee will select the applicants to be interviewed. All initial interviews will be conducted in person and applicants must travel at their own expense.

Administrative Leave

The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions.  Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control.   The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA.  The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy.  The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.
