Description: 
Coastline College is soliciting applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position for Cybersecurity or Computer Networking in the Computer Service Technology Program to begin January 2020. The primary teaching responsibility will be in the area of Cybersecurity. Applicants should also be able to teach a variety of Computer Networking core and elective courses within the Computer Service Technology program.

Teaching responsibilities may include evening, online, and/or weekend classes. Courses in the Computer Service Technology program are primarily taught at the Garden Grove campus. Travel between campuses in Orange County, CA (Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Newport Beach, and Westminster) will sometimes be required. Demonstrated online teaching experience is preferred, but not required. In addition to teaching, job requirements include service to the institution, development of industry and government partnerships, enhancement of workforce development and career pathways, and play an active role in outreach to K-12 schools.

In addition to being designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security, Coastline College serves approximately 26,000 students, awards over 3,000 degrees and certificates, and transfers over 2,000 students to four-year institutions annually. Coastline College offers two-year associate degrees and certificates. As a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI), Coastline College reflects the dynamic diversity of the region.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Teach general and specialized cybersecurity courses such as: Introduction to Security, Ethical Hacking, Digital Forensics, CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner, and CISSP.
  2. Teach computer networking courses such as: Cisco Operating Systems (CCNA-CCNP), Linux, Virtual Machines, Palo Alto, and Cloud Networking.
  3. Assume a lead role in the development and implementation of Certificate courses in the disciplines of Cybersecurity and/or Computer Networking.
  4. Coach and/or provide leadership for the cybersecurity competition teams, such as WRCCDC, NCL, and/or CyberPatriot.
  5. Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member including, but not limited to the following: teach all scheduled classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy; follow the department course outlines; keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and progress; post and maintain scheduled office hours; participate in departmental meetings and college and/or district wide activities and committees as assigned.
  6. Assignment will include evening and online classes, and may include weekend classes.

Qualifications and Physical Demands

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must meet one of the following qualifications under (a) through (d):
    1. Possess the California Community College Teaching Credential for this subject area.
    2. Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution AND two years of professional experience directly related to the job assignment.
    3. Possess an Associate's degree from an accredited institution AND six years of professional experience directly related to the job assignment.
    4. Or, possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above.  Candidates making an application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency (located at www.cccd.edu/employment) in addition to all other required materials.
2. Evidence of a sensitivity to, understanding of, and the ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
 
Desirable Qualifications:
In addition to teaching competence in the primary discipline, the successful candidate will also have:
  1. Experience in blending student success strategies, such as: goal setting, time-management, problem solving, study methods, and research skills into their own curriculum. Candidates who have not had such experience will be expected to gain these competencies during their first year, so that they are able to incorporate these strategies in their own courses.
  2. Hold at least one professional industry certification in the Cybersecurity or Computer Networking discipline, e.g. CISSP, CASP, CEH, GIAC, EnCe, CCFP, CCFE, CCNA, or CCIE.
  3. Hold certified Cybersecurity instructor certificates.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of secure network design and implementation.
  5. Work experience in the area of Cybersecurity and/or Computer Networking disciplines.
  6. Teaching experience to include at least two years of community college or above; either part-time or full­ time.
  7. Experience in teaching online courses.
Physical Abilities:
  • Requires the ability to function in a classroom and/or office environment performing work of primarily a sedentary nature with some requirement to move to about the classroom, campus and off-campus locales.  Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in person. Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in on-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment.  Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens.  Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment. Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.

Conditions of Employment

For a full-time, two-semester position, a maximum starting range of $54,626 to $93,132 is offered, based on the 2019-2020 salary schedule of $54,6264 to $130,233. In addition, an annual stipend of $3,186 is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution. The District provides medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee.

SELECTION PROCEDURES:

Time to Refuel
Vacation
Classified, contract staff earn vacation days commensurate with years of service. Classified Management and Administrators earn 22 days vacation per year.

Sick Leave
All contract employees earn sick leave as outlined in the CA Education Code. Sick leave may be carried over from year-to-year and, upon retirement, unused sick leave may contribute to your PERS and STRS retiree benefit.

Holidays
The District observes 21 paid holidays per year.

Jury Duty, Bereavement, Military Leave
Coast grants contract employees called to jury duty a leave of absence, without loss of pay, for the entire length of required service. Other available leaves include bereavement from 3-5 days and military leaves of absence in accordance with applicable state laws.

Great Expectations
Pension Plans
The District participates in the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS) and the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) for contract employees. Non-contract employees participate in Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) plan for the first 1,000 hours of their employment.
Additionally, it is the policy of the Coast Community College District that contract employees who retire from the District with ten or more years of service be afforded the same group insurance benefits until 70 years of age. A Medicare Supplement or GAP plan  is available to retirees and their spouses after age 70.

Annuities
The District maintains a program whereby qualified employees may request through Payroll to have a portion of his or her salary deposited under a tax sheltered annuity plan or an approved deferred compensation plan.
