General Statement of Job

To advise and assist academically and/or economically disadvantaged students needing assistance and support to succeed in an academic setting and improve future employability options.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Manages Support Center and Foster Care alumni programs at the campus.
  2. Provides counseling for individuals and groups, including career and educational planning, decision making, values clarification, and understanding and overcoming barriers to academic success.  Provides crisis intervention, coordination of care and referrals as needed.
  3. Provides academic counseling and advising, including course selection, degree planning, review of transfer information, and determination of ultimate employment objectives.
  4. Analyzes information about individuals through interviews, assessments, and records to appraise their interests, abilities, and potential barriers to academic success.
  5. Provides case management services through on-going contact and follow up with students, and coordinates referrals to college and community services as needed.
  6. Manages budgeted funds allocated for students for financial assistance.   Serves as liaison between childcare provider, student, and ACC to insure payments and contracts are being fulfilled.
  7. Determines eligibility for special assistance programs offered by the college.
  8. Selects and recommends textbooks to be purchased for the Lending Library.
  9. Gathers and updates data, analyzes, and incorporates data in working on solutions for students and also to distribute caseloads.
  10. Assists with college-related community outreach, networking, and recruiting students.
  11. Participates in program planning, development, and documentation including meet ups and groups for foster care alumni as well as other students.
