Definition
Under general supervision of the Dean in consultation with Music Department faculty, the employee provides assistance to students and faculty in music classes or music computer lab. Assignments are expected to be approximately 6 to 20 hours per week, and not to exceed 20 hours per week or 160 days per fiscal year.

Example of Duties: Duties may include, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Accompany students in voice classes and choral ensembles.
  2. Respond to student questions and provide information regarding subject matter.
  3. Oversee student computer use within the lab.
  4. Demonstrate proper operation of lab equipment.
  5. Prepare student projects for printing and/or iTunes.
  6. Maintain a safe, clean and organized lab environment.
  7. Assist in coordination of performances and events.
  8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Physical Demands

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of (or a combination thereof ):

  1. Apple Macintosh computer systems and file management.
  2. Current Finale and Cubase software.
  3. Appropriate accompanist skills to assist faculty in voice and choral courses.
  4. Modern office practices and procedures.
  5. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  6. General word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.

Ability to:
  1. Learn and work within the policies, functions, and requirements of area of assignments.
  2. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  3. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  4. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  5. Operate a Macintosh computer at an intermediate level.
  6. Assist students with technical difficulties regarding assignments.
  7. Perform general clerical functions related to the operation of lab software and equipment.
  8. Exercise good judgment and discretion in resolving confidential, difficult and sensitive situations.
  9. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff contacted in the course of work.
  10. Demonstrate cultural competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications:
  1. Experience working with students.
  2. Experience as an accompanist.
  3. Completion of at least two semesters of Computers in Music.

Conditions of Employment
Employment is on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon verification of employment history, background verification as governed under Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. Assignments are short-term, temporary, and do not offer fringe benefits or pay for holidays or time not worked, and are limited to 20 hours per week or 160 days per fiscal year. The hours of work and effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor. 

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. Applications are accepted year-round and will remain in the pool for one year. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview. Please do not call the Office of Human Resources regarding the status of your application.

The normal hours of work are typically 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., or 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; some flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the department, including evening and/or weekend hours for special events.
