Nursing Instructor (Full-time tenure track position to begin Fall 2024)



POSITION SUMMARY

This tenure-track medical-surgical nursing instructor position is a 10-month (175 days) assignment, which includes a variety of courses, and will require the selected candidate to teach across three nursing programs: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) program, and Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program. The assignment and schedule, as determined by the District, may consist of day, evening, night, weekend, and 12-hour shifts.

Classes are offered on a 16-week calendar (fall and spring semesters), as well as in a variety of non-traditional scheduling options: winter intersession, evenings, summer sessions, and optional class formats, such as online education courses.

This position is contingent upon funding and final Board approval.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, cultural background, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff; AND
- Possession of a bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited/approved nursing program; AND
- At least three years (3) of full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in an acute care medical-surgical nursing setting within the previous five (5) years; AND
- Possession of a valid, active RN license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN); AND
- Certificate of completion in Principles of Teaching Adult Learners course. (Note: Course must be approved by Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician (BVNPT) and must be earned by July 15, 2024.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One (1) year of continuous or its equivalent direct patient care experience in a long-term care facility.
- Teaching experience in an accredited/approved LVN program (at least one year of full-time or its equivalent).
- Teaching experience in an accredited/approved RN program (at least one year of full-time or its equivalent).
- Certificate of completion in Principles of Teaching Adult Learners course. (Course must be approved by Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician (BVNPT).
- Experience integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into instruction.
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds including students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching pedagogies that support student retention and successful course/program completion.
- Demonstrated ability to actively participate in program, department, and college committees and shared governance.
- Previous faculty approvals by the BRN and/or the BVNPT.

Note: To show possession of previous faculty approvals by the BRN and BVNPT, scan and upload a copy of completed Form EDP-P-02 and Form 55M-10 under "Licenses and Certificates."

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES (REQUIRED)
- Current California RN License (required).
- To meet the criteria of a clinical instructor the following certifications are needed prior to July 15, 2024: AHA-BLS (American Heart Association-Basic Life Support), AHA- ACLS (American Heart Association-Advanced Cardiac Life Support), AHA-NRP (American Heart Association-Neonatal Resuscitation Program) and Principles of Teaching Adult Learners course (30 hours course approved by BVNPT)

Salary Range Salary to be determined by the candidate's proper placement on the current Faculty Salary Schedule, which is based on education and experience, and can be found at the Citrus College website. Maximum placement for newly hired instructor is Step 7.

ABOUT OUR HEALTH SCIENCES DEPARTMENT
The Health Sciences Department offers programs that include entry-level career certification in several areas. The department offers three tiers of nursing programs: The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, the Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) program, and the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program. The ADN program maximizes the department's ability to offer a complete career ladder in nursing. The department is recruiting to fill a nursing instructor position who is qualified and willing to teach in any of the three nursing programs.

The Citrus College CNA Program is approved by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the Vocational Nursing Program is approved by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technician (BVNPT), and the Associate Degree Registered Nursing (ADN) Program has approval from the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain professional and ethical academic standards.
- Provide class and clinical instruction in accordance with established course outlines and the respective board regulations.
- Inform students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
- Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and student records and submit them in accordance with published deadlines.
- Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations according to curriculum standards set by the District and the Board of Vocational and Psychiatric Technician (BVNPT) and the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
- Involve technology in the learning process when appropriate.
- Teach students with diverse backgrounds.
- Participate actively in staff development and professional growth programs.
- Participate in recruitment activities.
- Meet obligation with regard to grade reporting, scheduled classes, required office hours, and other directions provided by the Director of Health Sciences.
- Active involvement in all aspects of program design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Carry a fair share of other duties (program, department and committee work, curriculum development, community outreach, etc.) necessary for the smooth functioning of the District.
- Provide students with clear and concise learning outcome expectations.
- Design, modify, and implement curriculum.
- Perform other professional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to communicate effectively, in English, with a diverse population both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of the instructional team.
- Evidence of participating in the Online Education program.
- Evidence of developing and assessing student learning outcomes.
- Evidence of active participation in the Program Review process.
- Evidence of computer literacy and experience with standard computer software on Microsoft Windows platform (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canvas or similar).
- Evidence of using and promoting technology-mediated instructional techniques.
- Possess excellent organization skills.
- Possess teaching and clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing.
