Starting Salary Range: This full-time, tenure track instructor will enjoy a 175-Day work schedule ranging from $68,768 to $105,559 per year, salary determined by documented education and experience. Maximum initial salary step placement on the 175-day Faculty Salary Schedule is step 9. An annual doctoral stipend of $4,591 is granted to eligible faculty.
The position begins on Monday, August 18, 2025 pending Governing Board ratification. This position is expected to teach any course in the Chemistry department, with an emphasis in teaching assignments in Organic Chemistry. This position will work primarily on-site at our Aptos campus location. Classes may be in a traditional "in class" setting, online, or hybrid format scheduled over summer and/or winter months, and at various campus locations, including days, evenings, and/or weekends.

About the Department: The Chemistry Department consists of four full-time faculty members, approximately ten associate faculty members, two science laboratory coordinators, and a varying number of student workers. We support the Cabrillo College Mission and the Guided Pathways Initiative by serving a large and diverse population of students with multiple educational needs. Cabrillo offers transfer level, pre-professional, career technical, enhanced non-credit, and general education courses in the physical sciences. As a department and as individuals, we strive to create an equitable student-centered learning environment in the classroom. We make every effort to keep current with the latest discoveries in our fields and to use the most effective teaching techniques available so that we may best serve our diverse student population. Our ultimate aim is to provide courses of high academic standards so that students may attain their personal and professional goals. In addition to the direct support of teaching chemistry courses, our staff and faculty are highly involved in scholarly pursuits and community activities. These include scientific research, authorship, community outreach, professional development, and collaboration with other institutions. Our department does its best to represent the college in the most professional and productive manner.
The number of students served by our department has increased steadily over the last decade. In the 2023-2024 Academic Year, we offered about 11 courses with about 67 sections and served approximately 1,875 students.

Examples of Duties
- Teach assigned classes at the Aptos and Watsonville campuses, which may include evening or off-campus assignments
- Maintain expertise with current practices and technologies
- Work in collaboration with other full-time and associate faculty in curriculum revisions and new course development
- Serve as a member of division and college committees
- Work with lab coordinators to maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation
- Engage in participatory governance committees, processes, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways
- Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress
- Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours
- Cooperate with and participate as may be required in District investigations and/or student grievance matters of alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination, and retaliation
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
- Complete required District trainings such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.
Minimum Qualifications Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited organization and licensure qualifications:
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty, and staff AND
- Master's in chemistry OR
- Bachelor's in chemistry or biochemistry AND a Master's in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology or geochemistry OR
- A lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in the Chemistry OR
- The *equivalent

Required Professional Expertise:
- Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional field, curriculum development, review, and assessment of student learning outcomes

Required Discipline Specific Requirements/Licensure:
- Successful experience in, or academic preparation for, teaching Organic Chemistry
- Experience in small scale organic synthesis techniques
- Experience in spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques

- Development and review of curriculum, including assessments of learning
- Demonstrated ability to critically reflect on institutional and teaching practices that aim to increase cultural responsiveness
- Knowledge and understanding of the accountability and critical dimensions of equity

Desired Qualifications/Performance Expectations:
- Successful online teaching experience.
- Demonstrated pedagogical training in culturally responsive teaching strategies enhancing student success specific to Chemistry
- Experience and skill in developing innovative experiments for the undergraduate teaching laboratory, and in using teaching methodologies based on recent educational research
